I'm working on getting my first cache ready to be place soon (I hope :) ). I'd like to have a sound file (wav) connected with it as part of a puzzle. I've researched it a bit and found several cache listings that have either a link to a sound file that you have to click on, or better yet, the file starts playing as soon as you get to the page. I emailed the owner of one of them but he/she hasn't answered me and it's been 3 days now :( . Does anyone know how to do this?

Can you post the URL of the web site you're talking about? I can pick out the HTML code and show you how to modify it. (I don't know much HTML, but I can borrow/modify code real well!  )

You might want to check out the Groundspeak forums. At one time there was a thread going on about sound files on cache pages and there was quite a bit of information being thrown about discussing this very subject. I tried to do a search on it but it was so slow last night night so I couldn't get anywhere with it. Just go to Groundspeak and do a search for sound files and I think you'll find what you are asking for.;)

I tried searching the Groundspeak forums too last night and didn't get anywhere either. I'll try again.
Here's two caches:
History of Morse Code (sound is right there when you open the page)
The Sound of My Cache ( this one you click on a link)
Today the owner of the first one above answered me and said that they don't allow sound directly on the page any longer and that you have to have a link. I'm getting the impression that you need to have a web page of your own set up and upload the sound file there. Now I just have to figure out how to do that since I haven't had any need for my own web page before. Thanks for the responses.

Some ISP's offer a few megs of web space to their customers. In my case it's 3 meg. I didn't bother making a page but I load files on it ie: jpg, .txt, .wav, .zip etc so they will have an "HTTP addressable" location.
You will need an "ftp client" program to move files from your computer to the web space. I use ws-ftp32. The link below will start the download of a .zip file. Contact your ISP & ask about web space, get that set up, grab the software & learn to use it & zadabing zadaboom post yer files.

Just found out that GC.com has now banned sound files on the cache pages. Apparently they are very annoying to some people so unless your cache page is grandfathered they are no longer allowed.

Hmm, is it banned even though you have to click on something and go to another page just as RubiconJW said above? That's exactly what I've concluded I need to do.

That I am not sure of, I would suggest that you cantact our local reviewer GPSFUN for more info on that aspect.

I'll go with Haffy6's comment ..check with the reviewer.. to assure current policy but by all means learn how to use an ftp client & get a bit of "space" somewhere on the web to toss files, pix, sounds etc.. most useful in forums.. heres one of my stupid little saves:
..I'll leave now...
