Sounds like that is just one more ill informed nature geek that doesnt know anything but tries real hard to sound smart.

They just sound like another enviro-freak who thinks that you are going to destroy the earth if you even step off a trail. Of course, someone who wanders around the wilderness looking for snakes and amphibians probably has a distorted sense of reality anyway.

The author said they are saddened to see "unspoiled habitat" ruined by people. How did she/he get to that unspoiled habitat, on a helicopter that never set down??? Every footprint you leave adds up, not just from the "other people"

Let's go hunt her down I say. OK,OK that may be a little drastic, but darn it all. A bit too much I think.

Well, I am one owner/driver of a 2000 Subaru Outback that is proud and happy to search for "geo-junk" !!! Their loss for sure!

well for one... why the hellicopter does he own an outback if he doesnt think anyone should be "out in the boonies"? does he give himself special permission? second... this is coming from a ecofriendly cacher... i've seen geocaching do more good in a lot of places than bad.. for example my shawmut fishing hole, used to be pretty littered, people kept telling me of their CITO while looking for the cache, i go back to check on it, and with the exception of the large items like appliances, the place was barely recognizable from when the cache was first placed. And also when it comes to placing caches, i dont know of a whole of caches that promote stomping around off the trail (more than 15 or 20ft) and also most cachers i know are the outdoors type of people that are constantly trying to do good for mother nature (now there are exceptions) it sounds to me like this guy just likes to hear himself talk.

WOW!!!I think this Lady really needs a good bowel movement!! Hope she stays in California where she belongs. I dont know what to say about that one. We personally have a great respect for the outdoors and very much appreciate the beautiful state we live in, and I cant imagine that a few people walking around in the woods is going to ruin anything. Yes I have seen a few caches with a slight trail to them,,, so what!! Im sure the next year the ground is all healed up. So what if a few rotted old stumps get turned over and a few rocks get moved. Mother nature has a way of healing herself, its not like we are driving a tank through the area. Besides , if God didnt want us off the beaten path he wouldnt have invented the GPS'r. Hey lady,,if your reading this,,Take a chill pill, have a granola bar, put on your spandex "hiking" clothes, grab your two and a half ounce barbells and head out for a nice nature walk,[ make sure you stay on the pavement], and let us know how many nice scenic waterfalls you see[no, not the ones with the colored lights in them], how many nice lakes and ponds you visit, and how much wildlife you see[not counting the purpleheaded fishing tackle faced variety]!!! Have a nice day, and by the way,,I had a smoke outdoors today. PHHHT!!! :D

DITTO! What you guys all said! ;)
This chick is certainly not from the GREAT STATE of MAINE!
How dare she **** on us New Englanders/Maritimers.
Has she only seen snakes and lizards in her outings? How about the waterfalls, a natural slate quarry, a grove of christmas trees. a baby moose. Her world is way too small for me to live in.
Hey Maniac...If you can track her I'll have the gun and bullet and someone else just needs the shovel and we can add her to this great eco-system of ours.( not really, the eco-system wouldn't survive it)
The world was here long before we got here and will be here a long time after.

I say we turn the writer of that commentary, into a geocache. Then there'd definitely be a search for geo-junk. LOL! Maybe we can land the helicopter on her while we're attempting to not step on the "unspoiled" habitat. Somehow I think her feet would curl up, like under the house in the Wizard of Oz.

Man, her sister was GREAT in that role..... "I'll get you, my pretty, and your little CACHE, too!"

No offense to witches out there.....:o

I think most of us do our part to limit our impact on the environment, and as others have noted, I've seen areas improved by this sport. This person should definitely get a life, and stop the noise pollution her ranting and raving must cause to anyone in close proximity.

Geez, didn't realize this article would provoke so many people into wanting to inflict bodily damage on a person. ;) I have a better suggestion though instead of grabbing the pitchforks and flaming torches . . . as you can see the Driven magazine page thoughtfully includes an e-mail address which to me indicates that some well-thought-out and pointed letters might be beneficial. Of course, this is just one person's irrational thoughts. :D

Good point, FFJ! Why should we return spiteful comments to her prejudiced disdain?

Because we can, and because it's fun. LOL!

I'm glad we have a forum like this to vent our frustrations about such things, hopefully before we respond to her at her e-mail address with venom & hellfire. We wouldn't want to give her more fuel for thinking the sport is a waste of time, and pollutes the environment. (What is she SMOKIN'? Can I have some? =) ).

Some ppl just don't know a good think if it walks up and slaps them. But what "good things" DO that? Let's put our thinking caps on and really impress her with our intelligent arguments. Or at least try, I'm thinking she's a well-entrenched muggle who's not going to convert to loving the sport anytime soon.

This is Gail again and am just responding to all those wonderful comments to my post.:o
David says I need to publicly apologize to the nice lady in California .:( Sooo...
I am sorry if I affended her or anyone else. Sometimes this Maritimer can be very headstrong with her feelings and not back down if she really believes in something strongly.
David also apologizes for his post being somewhat crude and for giving me someone to look up too in this new hobby of ours.:D
Many of you do not know me and only a few have met me, but I am really a very nice person and would not consider harming anyone unless they intentionally do something to the people I care about.

P.S. I am a good shot though.;)

I started geocaching to get my kids outdoors, to get a better appreciation of the out of doors instead of just SEEING it on the Discovery channel. They no longer spend their weekends lazing around on the couch playing video games. Why on earth would I want to take them into the smog filled cities, in California that is. By the way, nice photo Dave and Gail
