Some people do it for the numbers and some don't but there are some who just do it!!!! Check out this thread.

I find this VERY hard to believe. One cache EVERY 4 minutes for 24 hours straight? Perhaps it was pre-planned, in a HUGE mall parking lot, with a micro under EVERY lamp post?
Otherwise, I don't see how it cold be done - especially since it went through the night when you would expect it to be dark (unless in a lighted parking lot...)

And besides, since a cache has to be 500 feet from the next one, 352 caches means that would have had to drive 33 miles to hit those caches.

Just read the thread and the posts and it is most certainly doable in that area. It took a lot of preplanning and a lot of support. Here is one of the posts from that thread.
Minor correction to team names,
The group of cachers:
Ed, The AlabamaRambler (AKA NatureFish)
Max, 'Poppy' of Nonnypoppy
Mike from Cache&Keri
Mike, 'Golf' from GolfNutz
All caches were signed DRR (Dallas Record Run) for the team.
Many thanks to all who helped put this together, and especially to my team-mates!
Four Germans, four Americans, a big van and lots of geocaches to find - now that's a recipe for a great weekend!
24 Hours (9 a.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday, we broke the old record in the 18th hour!)
312 Caches, (yes, we found every one - not one was logged without signing)
More laughs than I can count
Lots of wonderful memories

Yeah - I checked the link and read the logs. I STILL find it very hard to believe. They traveled 313 miles???
And then there's the "team" approach - did every member of the "team" sign every log, or did they split up and each do a bunch of caches?

Hmmm...so if we had a 100 person team, and cached for 24 hours.....

we should call every cacher in Maine "part of our team" and so every day we can count the found caches in the state as our daily total! :D
