One of my Eastern Star ladies is trying to drum up business for public casserole suppers. The food at these shindigs is really excellent if you enjoy pot luck. Would anyone be interested in a day of caching in the Sabattus area on August 26 or September 23, that would end with a meal at the Masonic Hall? I don't know the price yet, it's usually $5.00, all you can eat. I think kids eat cheaper. If they know you're coming, they can accomodate special diets. They would let us change out of our muddy, buggy clothes in their restroom. We don't have to make it an event cache, but it might be a fun day and the money goes to different charities like school libraries, cancer, heart, and the dyslexia tutoring centers.

Food at these public suppers is usually always awesome. Hubby's illness precludes me making a commitment but to those who can - it sounds like fun. And a place to change - a nice accomodation. Kacky - hope you have some takers - sounds like fun!

FYI - our church suppers we went up to $6 last year and it did not effect attendance but increased our $ by about $80! A good supper - plenty of food and good pie - is worth it!

We are a "possible" depending on schedules. Will this be a published event? It's a bit of a haul for us, but if we knew far enough in advance, we could make a camping trip out of it.

I would refer to the guidelines of event caches first, they denied my 4x4 rally the first time around because there was no specific event that everyone could benifit from, so then mike(the g-team) added in there the part about the Tread Lightly and they approved it. It's stated that an event cache can not just be a group of people coming together for caching. maybe we could put on a presentation about the eastern star :D

That is totally up to you and the reviewer GPSfun if he would approve it or not. My thoughts would be he probably would not.

I'd rather give the Eastern Star a presentation about geocaching! I'll check with GPSfun and see if the charity aspect is good enough.

I'm sorry, but such an event could not be published on GC.COM. It
certainly has nothing to to with OES; to stay off the slippery slope,
Groundspeak does not permit any tie-in between event caches and
charitable causes. It is possible to get something approved by making
a request directly to Groundspeak, but approved requests are extremely
rare.

You could start a thread in the regional geocaching forums as well as
on the Maine club forums to propose a caching day out that would
culminate in going to the OES event for dinner. I would recommend
making the dinner portion optional - if you cache you don't have to go
to the dinner, but you could join those who are going to dinner even
if you did not go caching.

that's cool! ya never know just who may be one. :D He told me pretty much the same thing about the 4x4 rally, that's when we added the "tread lightly" portion.
