Can anyone recommend some caches in or around Freeport that are fairly easy to get to and won't take a lot of time? I am going down next weekend to camp/shop. Are there any along the I95 by some of the rest areas? Thanks!

These are some that I have done and are in close proximity to LL Bean. Just do a zipcode search for 04032 and you will get quite a few within 5 miles or so from there.

Use Geocaching.com's new feature - caches along a route (http://www.geocaching.com/my/userroutes.aspx) - and you'll find the caches along I95. There are several between Houlton and Freeport.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just recently signed up as a premium member, (today) and that feature hasn't been enabled on my account yet. Hopefully it will be over the next few days. Do you know if there are any at the rest areas? I am hauling a trailer and don't want to venture too far off the beaten path.

We took advantage of the Rest Stop caches while coming and going, visiting:

It's your last chance to go
Mile 252
Carmel Rest Stop
NAB a travel bug hotel
Anyone need a break?

You have to plan ahead a bit as due to the divided highway you may find yourself going the wrong way and unable to get to them.

While in Freeport I would have liked to have done the Wolfs Neck challenge & the Muggle town shuffle, but just didn't find the time. Too many other things to do. I found most of the other local ones last year, which were:

Hedgehog Mtn. (a very ncie little hike up a hill)
Old Mill Stream (a really neat old mill site)
Pettingill
Little River Cache (near the camp site we stayed at this year)
Follow your Bliss

There is another new one near Follow your Bliss which we didn't get to either.

On previous visits we stayed at the Desert of Maine campground, this time we decided to be adventurous and stayed at the Recompence campground. Both have their goods and bads. e-mail me if you want to know more. Hope this helps. Have fun!
