Hi,

This past weekend, we checked out GC6F8A, Super Duper Underwater Hydro Cache 2.0. Unfortunately it turned out to be a DNF but based on the hint and past posts, we believe that the cache just didn't make it through the past winter (it hadn't been found since last summer).

This got me thinking about underwater caches in general. Has anyone done any in the past or know of any in the state of Maine or NH? I'd love to be able to actually log a find on one.

As far as I know this was the only one in the state. Ask T2H he found it or should I say both of them.

There are two underwater caches that I know of locally. The one that is mentioned in your post. Troy and I did this one last summer. There are actually two caches at the location (??) the old one and a newer one. We were planning on going back this summer and log the newer one, as to make the find " legal ". Still planning to. The other one is GCQEQ7 20,000 Leagues under Province Lake. On the Maine and New Hampshire border along route 153. A crowded tourist beach. Probally a better fall swim. It is temporarily disabled right now. May have been muggles by sea creatures.

Yeah, we were hoping to get over and bag 20,000 Leagues (http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=f53fd5fe-1ecf-490d-b023-5009d97df1f8) one of these weekends, and it just got pulled :( I can't see how SDUHC2 (http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=4f6b5e0c-e94c-4610-a0d0-e672deae2b2d) could have a problem through the winter... the cache is held in place with a rope and spring clip, unless it didn't get clipped back on properly last summer.

You didn't happen to see a pair of glasses down there by any chance, did you? ;)

That is one of the two caches down there. You will discover the other one if you read the logs. I'm sure they are both there. We used mask and fins to get to it.

I was up at my sister's house a couple miles from Province Lake last weekend and was planning on going for that one, but it was disabled a few hours before I left to head up. Hopefully it will be revived soon.

Yeah, after 45 minutes of treading water looking for my damned glasses, I was in no mood to invest much more time into the cache! Kendra dove for it several times trying to untie it, then gave up. When I went down, I couldn't see much at all without glasses, so I grabbed the first thing that looked like a cache. I'm getting a nervous twitch right now talking bout it...

As for GC6F8A I was down in the cache area the clue describes with a mask but definitely didn't see anything that resembled a cache, only a bunch of rocks in the "clue". T2H, looking to adopt a cache? The cache owner hasn't logged into GC.com since Saturday, March 26, 2005. I didn't see any glasses either . T2H, I'll be interested to read your log on your return visit. I've got a watch on that cache now.

TAT, we read your logs (last year and this year with the tube people). You certainly have made the effort. We had a couple people flying by on gaspowered craft but since we had two canoes we could shelter ourselves from their paths.

Bummer about 20,000 leagues. Looks like srt4guy (http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?guid=245f90da-8b69-4d82-925f-010365b90303) is going to replace it though so maybe a summer 2006 underwater cache is still a possibility.

Thanks everyone,
Jeff

Does anyone want to get together and do the cache as a group? I will bring the jet ski to make it alittle easier. There is another virtual cache on the other end of the pond, and two nearby caches on land. I would not want to adopt an underwater cache. Doing it is all the trouble I need.

This sounds like a good plan. It all depends on when.

We can't do it this weekend (Aug 5 & 6) but would Saturday, August 12th work for you? We can bring our canoe out again, although we'd be playing catch up to your Jetski for "The Rock (http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=d1499eb6-c485-47c9-8eb1-634464c53214)". As for others in the immediate area there are Mtn View (http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=ec7171aa-f215-4be8-a5bd-5e572e25a022) and Pleasant Surprise II (GC169C (http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=7c73bc76-de1d-4457-abb3-37015af0ccc7)) which could be a fun hike as a group.

Maybe we could do the mountain hike and then do the water cache after as a refreshing cool down.

I just had a very funny picture pop into my head of TeamAfrofish being towed behind Team2Hunt's jetski at a mind-numbing rate of speed . . . can you imagine the ol' Old Town leaving a wake behind it? :D

Funny, I sort of had the same thought! It is an Old Town :p. Perhaps that would be a expibition Olympic sport or more appropriately X-Games? Some sort of slalom with bouys?

Upon further thought, paddles work just fine.

The 12th is open and alright for the Team. We could meet at the Home Depot in Windham around 9:00-9:30am. Or Tim Horton's across the street if it's an early start. :p If this is a go, I will send gpsfun an email that we are going to check it out. Then we'll clean it up and archive it, if necessary. The hike is also a good idea.

I see the cache owner has posted a note, and will return to the cache sometime around the 21st of August, and replace it.

I thinks thats pretty cool. Just goes to show what a little communication will do to instigate some action.

Since the cache owner is heading back out there on the 21st of this month, I guess we'll hold off on the multi-team Moutain Assault/Water Cache jet-ski/canoe attack. We may as well wait to do our 2nd attempt until after the maintenance has been done.

We were surprised to see that someone had logged a find for Super Duper Underwater Hydro Cache 2.0 (http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=4f6b5e0c-e94c-4610-a0d0-e672deae2b2d) yesterday. We read the entry, the find was more like a "we found it.... sort-of so we figure we'll log it". Not quite sure the reasoning there but to each their own.

T2H, thanks for the offer to return to the cache and thanks Haffy for posting a maintenance note of the cache, looks like the GC community is spinning like a top.

Nice work, everyone... I'm glad this cache didn't fall by the wayside. :)

Based on past logs, I think the owner cuts the finder some slack if they obviously were in the right area and could have found the cache had it been there. Looking back, it became apparent after the fact that we had found the old cache, not the new cache, but I feel we would have been able to find the right one had we known. I'm a-keepin' my find! :D

You found THE cache. I don't know why it would matter what version it was! It's not your fault all possibilities of the original cache were checked out before replacing it.

What kind of containers are they using for a underwater cache? I would like to set one up here.

Apparently not very water tight ones.....:)
