View Full Version : Geocacher Stats

A few members here asked about cacher stats on another site so I thought I'd remind everyone of the pages created by gc.com member Grand High Pobah.

These pages are updated automatically a couple times a week and include cachers with 200 or more finds. To save the strain on gc.com's servers, this site has high profile caches on a "watchlist", and when prompted checks the finders and the number of finds on those caches. A high profile cache would be one that has a lot of finds and gets found on a regular basis. For Maine, Old470 could be one of them - I'm not sure, but of all my caches, that is the most likely. So, they may be off a couple caches if the high profile cache wasn't hit in that time period. Too bad they didn't have DNF rankings, eh Judy? This list rates on finds in the area, not residency.

On to the links:
Main page / Worldwide index (http://grand_high_pobah.home.comcast.net/)

Maine Index (http://grand_high_pobah.home.comcast.net/Maine1.html)

Boolmark them, and you can have an updated copy whenever you want!
(You can check other states by goingto the Worldwide Index)

I added it to the "Geocaching Resources & Tools" link section. http://www.geocachingmaine.org/links/showlink.php?do=showdetails&l=74&catid=5

Yes, as Haffy said I added the top 50 Maine geocachers to the navagation bar under "About Geocaching Maine/Tools".

Ummm, actually, it's not the top 50. It's all cachers who have found 200 or more cachers in Maine. It would show 100, but there are only 60 in maine so far. Good luck getting all that into your menu, though! :D

I've only found a few cachers out in the woods, but I've found quite a few caches! ;) :D I tried my darndest to stuff Hiram into one of my ammo boxes, but he just wouldn't fit!

Very true. It is the list of cachers who have 200 or more caches, but it is in order of the person with the most caches. So maybe I should reword it to "Maine's top cachers".

Rumor has it that Hiram will be retiring soon and will allow Steph to work while he spends his days in the worthwhile pursuit of looking for Happy Meal Toys . . . I believe he's taking early-early retirement.;) :D

With 281 finds we are ranked 10036th with 31 other cachers at this second in time :D definately NOT about the numbers !!

but if you really want to get technical about it, you should only group yourself with the cachers that started caching at the same time you did. :D

So that would give you your caching rate or in other words speed. And how quickly you achieved your numbers.
Now that would REALLY be all about the numbers !! :D LOL and bordering on the obsessive!! :p
Even though it is not about the numbers..... we are at a rate of 1.068441064638783269961863118 caches per day or somewhere around there :D
So caching for us is like a One-A-Day vitamin:D

Hmm, that puts me at only 0.12 per day, since my first find.

But then, I only found a total of 25 in all of 2004 and 2005, so that pushes the average WAY down... So perhaps a better measurement (or at least one giving higher numbers :D )would take actual days spent caching into account - So that would put me at 2.54 Finds per CachingDay. Almost a measure of efficiency, rather than speed.

Hmm, why does this remind me waaaaay too much of 1st semester physics? "Remember class, the first derivative of position with respect to time gives us velocity; The second derivative gives accelleration...". Nope. Don't want to go there. I just have a paltry 137 finds, and I'll stick with that. :p

Wow... The numbers I had to find to do the math point out another interesting statistic - I have spent one half of one percent of my waking life geocaching. If I include time letterboxing with that, I have spent 1.32% of my waking life in the woods searching for tupperware. Freaky. :)

1.068 44 10 646 387832 69 9 618 63118

Do I see a set of coordinates buried in there?

<<< Hauls out the calculator to figure out ...distance traveled per cache per day per gallon of gas per sunny day!!!! :D LOL
You gotta love numbers and how they can be manipulated to fit our needs :p

And yes TAT that does look like a waypoint doesn't it.... maybe there is something there under a pile of sticks

(I don't think you really want to do that... Would have a VERY detrimental effect on the sport of geocaching! LOL!) ;) ;)
