Well, it's just 267 days away :-) In the past couple of weeks, TPTB have announced that the Geowoodstock 5 mega-event will be in Raleigh NC next Memorial Day weekend. I had a blast at the one in Texas where I met a ton of great people and did a whole bunch of Texas-style caching. I've already blocked this off on my calendar and will be driving down and back. If you think you might be interested, check out the http://www.geowoodstock5.com web site and sign up for the updates. More details in the months to come... :p

Are you guys serious? We could really plan to do this. From now on, coined the "Roadtrip to Raleigh!"

Mapquest says this is a 15 hr. 50 minute trip straight through (962.02 miles). But with more than one driver that wouldn't be to bad. I have a AAA and AARP membership so some hotels give a discount.

Whooo Hoooo - this could be to much fun!:D

Okay, and I thought I was the numbers girl. So how much would the whole deal cost? And how many bucks do I have to save every week to get there?

Holy crap, we could cache on the way! And the way back! LOL

We can figure the budget based on determining a vehicle to travel in and the estimated MPG. Pick the vehicle give me a MPG and I will work out a budget. I would also need the number of days we want to travel (hotel / meals).

Now the caches on the way - I will leave that techno piece to another one of the gang.

We could CITO lots of bottles for a gas fund LOL!

Troy and I just drove to Florida and back. Raleigh was about 985 miles and with gas mileage of the Team Tahoe ( 17 MPG ) it would be about 300.00 round trip. Gas is quite a bit cheaper down south. ( 2.59 ) alot of places. The time at approx. 75 miles per hour, figuring in some caching along the way, and we took the western route, thru Hartford and Pennsylvania, was about 20 hours. Lots of caches along the way. Most of them micros at rest areas. The Team will probally be going, but would make it a week long vacation. Most of this route is allready available thru GC.com. " along a route " is a shared method of making PQ's. Also there are alot of Bookmarks along those routes.

Well, we know the Expy is not going at roughly 13 mpg so let's take an average of 25 miles per gallon and calculate with that. I've got an in as far as hotels go, and meals we can pack picnics and a cooler to help with that.

. . . Gas is quite a bit cheaper down south. ( 2.59 ) alot of places. . ..

Pretty sad isn't it when we consider $2.59 to be a good deal . . . although $2.59 does sound pretty decent . . . I've got to figure out some excuse to drive over to Newport again and fuel up.

We came thru Newport earlier tonight and what a gas war they are having there. Irving's was at $2.52 and across the street they were changing their price as we went by. Traffic was backed up out into Rt. 100 for a couple hundred feet both ways and lots of horns honking. Lots of folks had trailers with up to four four-wheelers on them and piles of five gallon containers to boot. People certainly are taking advantage, can ya blame them?? Wally world was hopping tonight as well. great for Newport's economy. To take a name from one of Jake's caches.......Fill er' up!! :D

I was up in the county this weekend, and @Mars Hill - $2.69. Drive south to Houlton - $2.89. Guess it gets cheaper when you have to truck it an extra 30-40 miles north:rolleyes:

Just checking to see if there is anyone else interested in getting together and talking about attending this event. It is still a long way off but we have started our planning already. There are flights out of Bangor for about 300.00 and flights out of Portland for even less. Post if you are even considering the idea and we'll share what info we have already. Have a great week everyone!

I fly to Charlotte once or twice a year and flights right now out of Portland to Charlotte are really cheap. $121.00 Rd trip. Raleigh is only about a 2 hour drive from Charlotte if that.
