RobT rmwllc 10-19-2006, 08:35 AM What are the lat/longs you are using for the chat room? could you be using the wrong coordinates? FuddsGirls 10-20-2006, 07:24 AM I haven't been on in a few weeks but the last time I did, you were there and we chatted. Team2hunt 10-20-2006, 08:38 AM I have a hard time getting on. I have to use a combersome method to log on. But I have been on recently. I do see a noticeable decline in the chat. Remember when we used to get 11-14 people on Wednesdays. Haffy 10-20-2006, 02:57 PM I'm thinking maybe people like the other chat program better. After using both I think I prefer the last program we had but that is just me. Kaching Karen 10-20-2006, 06:37 PM I liked the other program... for sure! You could post a flag, happy faces, and poke fun without saying a word... brdad 10-20-2006, 08:17 PM I just haven't had the time to chat the past few weeks. Or cache. It's just not fair! FuddsGirls 10-20-2006, 09:59 PM I think we all prefered the other chat program but that's what leaves the web sight open to hackers. I think that's what I understood Rick to say. Guess we'll have to be greatful that we have a chat at all. I don't have any problem with it when I do go in. The program must agree with my dial-up. Finally, an advantage:cool: attroll 10-21-2006, 02:34 AM I think we all prefered the other chat program but that's what leaves the web sight open to hackers. I say go for it and we can try it out for a while and see what happens. brdad 10-23-2006, 06:23 AM We all know I prefer IRC better. As far as hacking is concerned, usually the brunt there is on the actual IRC servers, which are off our site. So as far as hacking, IRC is much safer for our site. Even when using a Java chat program, if it is IRC based it is still safer. There are other java clients, I linked Rick to one in PM a while back, maybe that would help out anyone that does not like what we have now. Rpapaman 03-26-2007, 04:46 AM Hello Everyone! Just to let you know (for what it is worth), I have not been able to access the chat room now for months! When clicking on chat room, all I get is pretty much of a blank screen that says something to the effect, "Security issues will not allow a connections"!!! What is up with that? What good is a chat room if it is difficult to access?? What happened to the old chat room where I used to be able to get into without any problems at all?? I would like to chat at times, however, currently, I am totally unable to do so! Rpapaman brdad 03-26-2007, 05:59 AM Ron, this is not unusual for Java chat. If you go into Internet Explorers options, sometimes it's as simple as allowing Java, other times it's a a matter of allowing your firewall to let the Java app act as a server. On Lee's XP machine, I gave up trying to get IE to work, and installed Firefox (http://www.mozzilla.com), and it was no problem. I stress again, the easiest way around 99% of this trouble is to install an IRC client, like mIRC (http://www.mirc.com/) or Trillian (http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/). If you'd like to try one of those out, e-mail me, ask me here, or I will call you if you'd like and I'll walk you through it. I allready made a tutorial for trillian if you would like to try that. http://www.bytethebullet.com/geocachingmaine_chat.htm I guess I should post that on this site, as well as a tutorial for mIRC... attroll 03-26-2007, 12:34 PM Brdad does not know it yet but he also set it up here http://www.geocachingmaine.org/forum/showthread.php?p=29646. brdad 03-26-2007, 12:48 PM Brdad does not know it yet but he also set it up here http://www.geocachingmaine.org/forum/showthread.php?p=29646. LOL I just got back home and was pondering if I should start copying the article... And then I see it was allready done, and I sat here dumbfounded for two minutes wondering if I had done iit this morning and forgotten it. Fortunately I read this thread and saved my head from exploding. Are we going to have a link to the articles on the main page anytime soon? PS: The site seems very slow today, is it me? Other sites load fine. attroll 03-26-2007, 01:00 PM Yes Dave you read my mind. I have been thinking about working on something like that for a day or two. I will be doing something with that soon. attroll 03-26-2007, 01:28 PM I stuck a articles block on the front page real quick. Now we need members to submit some more good helpful articles. brdad 03-26-2007, 01:35 PM Great that is has categories as well. And yes, I know there are people out there with stories and ideas that would be of benefit to the site and other cachers, it'd be great for them to sumbit their own articles. I'm working on an mIRC version for chat as well.. brdad 03-26-2007, 01:57 PM Oh, BTW ... Ammo has 2 M's in it. :) Cache Maine 03-26-2007, 09:44 PM Every time I want to check on how I'm doing on my delorme, I spend about 1/2 hour finding the one correct post. Maybe we can add this to it as well. This is for the excel file where you plug in your finds and it does it for you. http://www.geocachingmaine.org/forum/showpost.php?p=18053&postcount=62 (http://www.geocachingmaine.org/forum/showpost.php?p=18053&postcount=62) brdad 03-27-2007, 07:54 AM Every time I want to check on how I'm doing on my delorme, I spend about 1/2 hour finding the one correct post. You can add that, as well as other info - a link to the cache page, a description, and any other valuable info. I've been trying to find a way to automate my Maine Delorme map, similar to my allpublishedmainecaches.jpg (http://www.bytethebullet.com/geocaching/fora/allpublishedmainecaches.jpg) image. If I ever find an efficient way, you can add that, too. brdad 03-27-2007, 08:26 AM Oh, and Rick - while you are re-spelling ammo, you forgot to add the gcmaine cards article, too. :) attroll 03-27-2007, 01:38 PM Oh, and Rick - while you are re-spelling ammo, you forgot to add the gcmaine cards article, too. :) I thought I did those cards. O' Well I added them and I fixed my spelling errors. brdad 03-28-2007, 07:00 PM Lets see if we can go for a record and get at least 10 people in there! :D brdad 04-02-2007, 07:29 PM Don't forget!
