Wow Jake... that's just weird... today as I was driving back from Madison I was thinking that exact same thing (driving past hedgehog hill got me thinking about it), I was thinking about posting it already so that people could start thinking about dates and locations.

but really, that freaks me out... quit stealing my thoughts.

seriously...

Well, I'll be treading lightly on the Rubicon on July 16th, if the good Lord's willing and the creek don't rise--anyone else up for some real 4 wheeling? Either before or after that, I plan to hit Moab and perhaps head up through Colorado--doing the Black Bear road would be cool.

June would be good for me--that would be a good chance to test the lift and all.

Well I could say something about great minds thinking alike . . . but instead I'll simply suggest that if you want us to stop stealing your thoughts you need to fashion a hat out of tinfoil and wear it since we all know that this is the only way to stop telepathy. Now as for the gremlins infesting your Jeep . . . don't go into the water. :D

Either month should work for me . . . although I will know better when we get closer to the actual date.

Second question . . . where are we riding this year? Have you given any thought to riding in downeast Maine off the Stud Mill Road trails?

Hiram357

I think it's about time to start the planning for the 2007 trip, I think the most popular ideas are to go downeast, or north... way north. So keep your eyes open for 4x4 caches and well just head towards the most 4x4cache infested area. We'll also need to decide on a meeting spot (like the big stop, an area for those that don't want to go on the trip can still stop in and say hi) and a campsite. Lemme know and we'll start throwin this thing together. :D

I would personally like to head north again. I love the deep woods of Maine. I am sure others would like to stay along the coastal area though.

We still have plenty of time.

I love the deep maine woods too, but theres so much to explore throughout maine. If everyone would post some caches that they thought would be good to do for the trip then we can start weighing our options and see where the most fun could be had. :D

Right off the top of my head I can't think of any great 4WD caches, but a trip to the County is always a lot of fun . . . actually I take that back, I did one cache on Mars Hill that I drove to that was fun. I hope to get back to the County again this Summer . . . the State Park campground in PI is one of the greatest campgrounds I have ever visited.

I'm up for a trip in any direction, though there is so much work do to on the Jeep and it just keeps adding up. Just noticed my rocker panels have rusted through, so we'll have to cut out the old ones and weld in a new set. I'm just a little scared about what we'll find under the carpet. You can buy a whole new floor pan, but cutting the old one out and welding in a new one is something I really want to avoid!

Try checking out www.4wd.com (http://www.4wd.com) they've got a pretty good network of distributors and might be able to find somethin for ya.

The G Team
02-27-2007, 11:03 AM
Yeah, they do have lots of cool stuff. Actually, rocker panels aren't too bad--about $120 for a pair at www.rockauto.com--it's just the cutting and welding that will be a PITA. Even a whole floor pan isn't all that expensive. It's a bit ironic, but the floor in the parts Jeep is rock-solid. If it wasn't such a hassle, I'd cut the floor out and save it. I did get the carpet out in one piece, which is in pretty good condition (albeit rather in need of a good cleaning).

I picked up a new engine stand and I'm hopeful we can get the engine and tranny out this weekend. That will just leave the front axle to pull and the carcass can go to the crusher.

That sounds good . . . have you looked at the area downeast near Machias and around the Airline. I think there may be some caches there that are located off the Stud Mill Road and may actually be some caches that could be done with 4WD vehicles -- even Toyotas! :D

If we're looking at some caches that are not too technical, but there would be some non-tarred road driving here are a few suggestions for Downeast . . . maybe some of the guys from down that way can let us know of any others or if these would be appropriate candidates.

How's everyone feel about the weekend of June 30th???

The general consensus apears to want to explore the downeast wilderness. (I have a good primitive site in mind on the machias river, but was thinking it would be better to stay at a campground because then our sites would be garunteed and not a first come first get the good campsite [like omaha...], preferbably not a state park because they tend to frown upon adult beverages)

Mike do you want to do another tread lightly presentation (or somethin of the sorts to help us fall into the category of a cache event)

I've been scoping out some door prizes too, like roadside kits, towstraps, and portable utility flashlights.

Anyone have any thoughts about meeting at Dysart's in bangor? (it's no big stop, but it'll be a good start to roughin it)

I can't speak for anyone else . . . obviously . . . but June 30th should work for me.

For me Dysarts is often the beginning or ending of an adventure while camping, ATVing, hiking, etc. so that would work well . . . it's no Homestead, but the food is pretty decent . . . plus it's still standing. ;) :D

It's not the job. We have other things we are doing that month and one of them is our annual event and having another pig roast. We are looking at the weekend of the 9 - 10th or 16 and 19th. We are leaning towards the 9 - 10th though.

Camping with the black flies at the end of the month is not high on my list of things to do either.

The June 30/July 1 weekend would be cool. We have to be in Cali on July 16th, so will probably leave on or about the 9th. I think I would take a ration of you-know-what if I was to be away the weekend (7/8th) before we plan to leave.

PS the 8.8 axle is at the Ford garage as we speak, getting the 4.56 gears set up. When my buddy gets back from AZ next week we should be able to start getting the lift and new axles installed--Wheeee!!!!

I'd love to go, but the Jeep's going into the garage for the lift this weekend (finally!). Dropped another $1,100 today for the front axle upgrades (Superior Chrome Moly shafts, Dana/Spicer 4.56 R&P w/master install kit and aluminum outer axle seals). Of course, this doesn't include the $700 for the ARB air locker that I bought previously, or the $125 Ruff Stuff diff cover(3/8ths" steel). Oh, and I'm sure the gear install will be at least another $300 (that's what the rear gear install cost). Is there a Jeep Parts anonymous?

Yeah, if you interupt my fishin I'll be pretty pissed!! :D

Sat We're hopin to be campin out by West Lake (On map page 34 follow Rt 188 through Burlington until it goes to that light dotted line right between west lake and nictous lake) Hopefully we'll be able to get one of those sites at the end of the road.

sun we'll try for the campsite umm... i haven't planned that far... but itll be over by grand lake somewhere.

But what you could do is use your magellan coordinate system to find us, to do this take any random 5 numbers and multiply them by 23.7 and then arrange those numbers to make coordinates. :p :D

Ah, it was just one of those things . . . it just wasn't meant to be. It gave you two some nice time alone though and it sounds and looks like you guys had a great time . . . well except for the AC going kaput.

Next time. . . .

Isn't this one of the dates we first talked about :)

If all goes according to plans (does it ever?) we might just be back in time to attend.

We only have 50 PMs? Anywho, I've emptied my folder for future messages. I purchased the items I had from http://www.treadlightly.org/. There are many 4x4 websites out there that have good basic wheelin' info that could be printed such as http://www.bb4wa.com/articles/articles.htm.
