I am headed to Seattle next week and I would like to find the "home" of geocaching. Does anyone know what I am talking about and what the name of the "cache" is? I've done a search on the Seattle area, but I am a bit lost. It is my understanding that I have to get an invitation to find this cache. I'm going to give it a try.

When you contact them and they in turn give you the invitation then make sure you can get a photo so we all can see that you were indeed there. Have a great trip

I sent my "wrangle an invitation" letter to headquarters tonight. I'm hoping to get an invite. Hopefully, the fact that I'm there for seven days will add some flexibility.

I got my invite to the headquarters in Seattle! Right at the moment it is on Friday afternoon. The unfortunate part is that it conflicts with the only plans that my daughter and I made for the whole week. We'll work something out, for sure.

That's too bad, I'm sure she won't mind waiting in the car. (make sure to leave some quarters so she can feed the meter) I'm sure she'll understand your priorities. :D

Well, I found the headquarters and it wasn't that easy. They have moved their headquarters and I was looking for a different building (from pictures in the logs). After a bit I decided to trust the coordinates they gave me and I finally found a 3"x5" paper on the door announcing it was the home of groundspeak. I went in for a 20 minute tour that ended up being 50 minutes. It's amazing that this all started in a basement. Eric took me on the grand tour which meant dodging boxes because they just moved in. I met some of the crew; Jeremy, Elias, and Adam (a coowner). Adam Roch took a lot of time to talk to me about what was going on in Portsmouth and the east coast. It's quite amazing how he can keep on top of all that stuff. Eric and I talked a lot about geocaching and education. They are really headed in some interesting directions. I wish I had taken notes. I told them about some of my ideas for kids and they gave me the name of the marketing person I need to contact. They were so down to earth! I wish I had some of you guys with me that would ask really cool questions. Oh well. It was an experience. As soon as I finsihed my tour I sat on the floor (the new chairs weren't delivered yet) and called Team2hunt. I hope to post pictures soon. I have a coin that I'll let you guys discover, (It's mine to keep!) and a anniversary coin from Adam to circulate on the east coast. Look for some really interesting things happening in geocaching!

Here I am with Bryon Roth one of the cofinders of geocaching. I met Jeremy Irish, but didn 't get a picture of him.

Eric with the actual cache at Headquarters. It was a little bare, but I left behind a Maine coin and a Canadian coin, neither have tracking numbers through geocaching.com. They were okay with that. In exchange I got a special headquarters coin and a coin that Bryan Roth has for his wife's and his anniversary. They want me to start it in Maine.

It's hard to believe that this all started in a basement. They have this row of computer terminals that are there for developing the site. They have conference rooms and rooms where they create new ideas. Moving day into these new headquarters was in January and they are still tripping over boxes and ladders.
