How exciting to have 2 back to back events in the Bangor area!:)

Brad and I had several discussions about the kayak event when it didn't get posted and things fell apart for Barry. Nothing we seemed to think of worked out. At GW5, we Maine folk had also discussed there are not a lot of events North of Augusta. Sitting on my deck, Brad and I both said - humm, a nice place to camp, why not have one here.:o

Having a hubby who is not a camper, a very private person, as well as a new dog presented some hurdles. With the rental of a port-a-pottie and some assurances he said, "honey, you want to do it - go for it". So, today I posted the event and it was published.:)

I want everyone to know they are welcome. We have a spacious back yard and want you to come, spend the night and have a wonderful time. As folks post attendance intentions, I will email them all. Friday night is open too (just not as an event) if you would like to land in the area early, claim your space and put up your tent, go for it. Just PM me to let me know and please no arrivals later than 10PM.;)

I do not have an outdoor frig like Rick but we can get ice at the store. Plan accordingly for your food. I do have an outdoor grill.

Will put up some shelter (ez-e-ups) and folks are welcome to use my hot tub. Anyone with a dog, just keep them on a leash or under voice command as there are horses in the field above and our new dog is a tad shy and will be put in her run for pottie time.

Questions, concerns - please ask. No question is to odd. One cache close to us is at a Penobscot River Boat launch so anyone wanting to try their hand at boating on the river, we are close. There are new caches being published in Orrington, too.

If there is anyone who would like to come and absolutely does not have a tent, I have a small one and a larger one which I am willing to put up if you PM me. So no excuse!

Come for a short time, too. Don't forget the geocache container swap. I am planning on having some 35mm film cannisters and other stuff. Everyone bring something - containers (camoed or not), swag, writting implements and what have you to swap/trade.

Hope to see you on 9/8 either in Hampden or here in Orrington!

Go ahead - lay it on me! LOL

No -We will not have any helium (unless someone brings it!). Yes, if my son comes (these were my husband terms - I didn't know he knew Hiram), we can have a fire as long as we can get a permit or have food to cook. No, there will not be a night light in the port-a-pottie but Yes, there will be a streetlight over it! Next............

Oh, and Steph better activate that new coin and bring it for discovery!

Not sure - I don't have much of a hill like Rick - let me check with my son.

But you will have the hot tub! Not quite as much fun but it is relaxing.

We might substitute caches for the slip and slide. One could have access from the camping rather than the road.

Anything else Master?

PLEASE - no Jello in the hot tub but if that trips your trigger I can get a kiddie pool maybe!:D

As for food - on Saturday night I thought pot luck would work. I have a propane grill - also if someone wants to bring dogs and rolls, I have a commercial steamer. How about posting what you want to bring.

Sunday morning is my treat - "Cook's choice" unless folks have huge dietary restrictions or desires - if so - bring your own. I promise - you will not go away hungry!

Also if folks want pizza there are a couple of local convenience stores that make good ones. We could call ahead and go pick up - I have menus. There is a cache near one of them and a cache on the way! LOL

Is this replacing Brads event? The reason I am asking is because it is the same date.

Hey Rick, it's a two-fer deal! Start out in Hampden at Brad's event and when that one is finishing up, move on over to Hollora's in Orrington...

I expect that Hollora will get a bunch of cachers Saturday morning to drop their gear and set up, then everyone will hit the road to come to Hampden. :)

Absolutely not! It is in addition too - sort of like the paddle after the pig roast.

When we were at GW5 there was that event and then that night another event. That is how we came up with the idea.

It gives folks an opportunity if they want to come up for the weekend, camp over, etc.

The other option is if folks want to come and set up Friday and stay over Friday night. That is ok with me.:) It just won't be a "formal" event Friday night. I also do not have extra frig space so this would be true camping as far as food, etc.

If folks are coming Friday, I would like a count.

Do you have any tress near where the tents will be set up? If I can make it I want to bring my hammock to sleep in.

Rick - I have trees all around but I am not sure if they would meet your specs - let me know what you need - distance apart, size, etc. and I will go look. You can also plug the event coords into google earth and see our house. Our line is close on the right as you look to the road but we go all the way to the state highway fence towards the Main Road. There is a brook on the rear of our property.

Let me know the specs and I will email you some photos of potential areas. I know my son bgrffdave would be interested in tha hammock. He is planning on coming I believe. Very cool!

Folks - please note - there has been a slight name change here to better reflect that this event is after Brad's. Hope Rick might change it on the front page of our web site.

First the trees have to be able to hold a hammock with me in it. Second the ideal width for the hammock I am going to bring is to have the trees 14 to 15 feet apart. If Donna comes I will bring a tent most likely but we may bring two hammocks. She usually likes to bring a tent if it is car camping which is what I call this.

I can sleep in a tent if I have to, it is not a big deal, but if there is possibilities to hang a hammock I would rather do that.

I just looked on Google Earth and I see plenty of trees. I will just bring my hammock and a tent if I can come and we'll go from there.

Yup, we have plenty of trees - we just haven't done a lot of raking and stuff under them - sort of left it o'natural. But we can. I will look and try to find a couple for you. There may be some down by the brook behind the house and more towards the Main Road too.

Glad to hear you folks are coming. We will look forward to it and it will be fun.

Don't go out of your way raking. I don't want to be to far away from the tenting crowd. Like I said if I come I will bring a tent also.

You probably can find space and there is no problem with your raking.......might forrage up some feed for the turkeys or other critters we occasionally see.

OK, I am really looking forward to both of these events. There are just two obstacles I need to iron out. The first one I have no control over and that is work. If I get stuck working that Saturday then the event is out for me.

The second obstacle I have more control over but I need to have all my ducks in a row. I am holding my annual WhiteBlaze Appalachian Trail hiker feed in Monson the following weekend. This is a big shin dig for me. We are moving it from Caratunk to Monson this year for reasons not mentioned here. I need to have all my food, cooking gear, tables, and everything else already and set aside and ready to go before I head to these two events.

Maybe I should make my Appalachian Trail hiker feed a geocaching event. We will be holding it at the school in Monson and servering lunch and dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday. We will all be camping on the ball fields. It should be a good time. If anyone wants to stop by and say hi your more then welcome. We could use some help if your willing too help.

So if the Cache Bashe and the Apres doesn't wear you out, head on over to a great charity event, the Run For Hope. We are expecting over 300 runners and walkers to come out and enjoy the 3.1 mile trek around town to raise money for cancer awareness. If you are not the race kinda type, we are still seeking volunteers to help with registration, timing, awards, clean up and a cheering section. For more information, check out the Run For Hope (http://www.runforhope.org) website. Preregistration for the race and volunteer positions is appreciated. If you have any questions, you can also contact me directly.

This event is very worthwhile and I hope a few come to at least cheer on folks at the finish line. So many Geocachers work hard on these events every year. Too bad we hadn't thought to try and put together a way that the weekend could have been a Three Fer (3 events in one weekend). Maybe next year!:)

Guess I missed a post on this thread about "big people drinks" that perhaps Hiram posted. Of course they are allowed!
