Well, it was only a matter of time before one of my tb found its way into the hands of a newbie then was never put back into a cache. It really @*&&@@ me off when this happens. I was enjoying watching it go from cache to cache. I knew I was doomed when the newbie logged it and said "This is a great find since this is my first cache.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad ::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad ::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad ::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad ::mad:

I have one in the hands of a newbie also. Its only been there since November but maybe its time to check in. Usually, if worded right, I get a good response from cachers who had or have a had a tb of mine.

Many cachers, us included, don't do much caching in the winter, so I don't usually get upset if a TB gets "held up" in the winter. Another problem we're experiencing is that so many of the new caches are micros or "small" caches, that it's hard to find a cache to put a TB in! LOL!

Ah, I think I have figured out the problem - the cacher is a slow, very slow reader:confused:.......posted was going to read it and pass along. Must have not finished it yet or be stuck on a chapter..........

This is definitely frustrating when they won't even be decent enough to respond to emails. Is there an alternative plan?

yeah, that no response kinda thing is uncalled for when he's logged in between the time he picked it up and now, I can understand if they pick up a TB and disappear off the face of the earth (cuz who knows what could happen) and never logs after that (maybe they lost their pc or somethin, but they could at least make an effort to move the TB along, put it back maybe?)

Well in my search for the almighty scrambler (in roadready conditions) is not going well, but i have found Jimmy Hoffa, the meaning of life, some video from way back that looks like it was from a parade down in texas... the fountain of youth, and an unchewed stick of bubble gum... but on the positive side, the longer it takes me to find somethin i want the more time i have to save $$$... :D

Believe me, if someone stole a coin or TB, they couldn't give a rat's behind as to what was said in these forums or what was emailed to them.

I lost a geocoin at Mainiac's "Last Cache Bashe of Summer 2007" event. I know that nearly all who attended were "well known" cachers. Yet someone who attended is a thief.:mad::mad:

Well I wasn't at the Last Bashe of 2007 but went to the Apres event. Since I'm not one of the "regulars", I sure would hate to be a suspect who gets talked about behind his back. Guess it's a good reason to not come to any of the future events. My wife was looking forward to the Pirate event. I'll break the bad news to her.

Wow! Not sure where this is coming from.:eek:

My point was that the newcomers should NOT be immediately suspect. But some people do collect geocoins, and others decide to keep travel bugs - for whatever reason. And yes, I do get a little heated about TBs and geocoins. It could even be as simple as someone who forgot to log the geocoin out of the event, and then was too embarrassed to speak up after the controversy started.

But I don't see how this would be a reason for someone not to attend a geocaching event, though.:confused::confused:

Steve, I can assure you that your attendance is wanted at the Pirate Quest. I know that we have talked about it in the past and both Hollora and I look forward to seeing you and your wife again.

I can also assure you that our feelings toward the potential loss of a geocoin or TB may not be the same as other event organizers. We would never blame anyone or the whole group that attended for the loss of a coin or TB because the bottom line is that we are not 100% sure what happened to it.

People who release these trackables know it could go missing, that's a chance that they take.

Please reconsider attending the Maine Pirate Quest...we will have a good time and we want you and all of our other caching friends to be there. We handle the TB/geocoin table a certain way, and that is how it will stay. We were pleased with the success last year and will do things similar this year.

We are so lucky to have such an amazing group of cachers in Maine. There are so many that would just drop everything to help when someone is in trouble, or need a little help. I am so thankful for that.

. . .

Agreed . . .

The way I look at it . . . I would like my TBs to travel, but recognize the fact that they may go MIA. I would like to think no one would intentionally take the TB, but instead any MIA TB would be due to someone not realizing that it was a TB and that TBs are designed to be moved along and not retained or that someone took it and misplaced it. That said, if someone does take a TB it's not the end of the world for me . . . it's a risk that comes with shipping out a TB into the wild blue yonder.

Of course as a geocacher there is one sure way to make sure no one ever thinks you've taken a TB or coin . . . never pick one up . . . of course that kind of runs counter to the TB's goal of being moved along.

I would be willing to bet that probably a lot of TB loss from caches is because someone takes a TB, then doesn't go caching again and forgets about the TB they took.

And it would be a great help if EVERYONE attached a tag specifying the goals, if any, and repeating the "This is no ordinary trading item" explanation that many of the tags have.

I just realized that my "Geocaching Police Squad" geocoin was also "stolen ??" :( hollora placed this coin in GCX4Q2 in TN on Jan. 4th. I thought I had been keeping track of this coin by just visiting my geocoin page and seeing that it had yet to move. I didn't even think to check the logs. I guess it was a Rookie mistake. Oh well; Live and Learn.

It turns out that the day after hollera placed the coin another cacher found the cache open and placed on top of it's hiding place. The swag was still there but no coin.

GO FIGURE ?!?! I was aware when I sent this out that this might happen, but it still stinks. It lived a very short life, but did travel far. Overall it was a good experience and I'll still sent more out into the world.:)

I don't move coins anymore. I put one in a cache for MoxiePup and that was the last I saw of it. I tried contacting the cache owner and got no response. I have one travel bug that stopped moving. I contacted the last person to nab it and she said her son wore it as a necklace. I guess it was special to him.

check out the tb page, haffy. The tb was meant as a way for us to say hi to you, but you can choose to send it on to another cacher you'd like to say hi to. Remember it has to be passed cacher to cacher. ;)

Morning All,
So I guess sometimes they muggle the TB for the hitchhiker and sometimes they muggle for the TB itself. I've seen people wearing dog tags for different reasons. So much for the Ugly Hitchhiker Theory! LOL!!
I've only one of my coins in transit. It was placed in a lighthouse cache by Parmachenee. Thanx to you for putting it in a Beautiful spot. It's a Great Cache coin and I hope it moves on to Great Caches by Great Cachers everywhere. I'm holding on to the rest of my coins and future coins,(with the exception of a donated coin here and there) unless I get 2 and release 1.
Also, Could someone start a thread re: Ayfuss... In researching caches around Maine, That name comes up, very lovingly!!! Evidently a great person as well as cacher and I would like to know more!!!
Thanx

Thank You Cache Maine for Sharing that with me. He touched so many lives in so many ways.
I didn't read the news articles, there was no need. The stories from fellow cachers told all.
Now I understand the importance of the jeep coin that was shared at the last event.

Well, At least you tried.
But you never know, It may show up. I just read about one that was just left in my brother, KD1EJ cache in RI. The person said he had it WAY too long. He found it in a coat he hadn't worn for awhile, March 2007, I think it was.And now he's wearing it again. Figures.

Just came across this thread and though I'd add my little bit to it. I've had six TBs that I activated, all have gone MIA (the last log was in '06). One I dropped off in a cache in NH, it traveled to Florida in one jump, then nada. Another I dropped off in my own cache (Clifford Park Cache) and someone grabbed it without even logging it.

Arrrggghhh!!! Makes me a little hesitant to get some more. I try to do my best to log and release whatever TBs that I find as quickly as possible, but I have been known to hold onto one for a long stretch of time. :(
