Tom and I are sitting here discussing the kayaking event that Rik has put on the day after the Slipping Into Summer Event. Rikk has asked us if we would like to organize that event. So, we would like to do that but would like to know what everyone is wanting/needing or whatever.

Here are some questions:

What would be a good spot for a kayak event?
One idea would be the Androscoggin River - meet at the Water Street boat launch in Brunswick and head down river towards Merrymeeting Bay and get a few caches on the way?

Would you prefer closer to Rik's neck of the woods?

What time would be best for everyone?

Any and all ideas and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I am game for either the brunswick area or up in Lychfield

Sounds good to me. I'm in! You name the time and we will be there.

It's far enough away that I can plan either - and either sounds good :p

Perhaps there are two options close to Litchfield? There's both the Androscoggin, and the Kennebec down to Merrymeeting. I for one would be interested in seeding the trip ahead of time w/some new caches, and open to ideas/help.

Loved the kayak event last year (and thanks to Tink letting me use her kayak could participate). My granddaughter's birthday is the 12th but we aren't celebrating til the 13th and this will be a very big day. Sooooo, I will not be able to attend a kayak event right after Rick's event this year. No matter where you go, or what you do, I know you will have fun.

Another option that I talked to Tom about at one time was putting in at you cache at the Penobscott dam and heading town to Brunswick.

The site has been up and and down. That may have been a reason for no responces. The site will stay up now, hopefully we will get some feedback.

If we are going to do this in the brunswick area I would put in at brunswick and go to bay bridge or amybe even bath for the really adventurous.

One thing to keep in mind is that there will be a few of us staying at my house in Litchfield camping out the night before from the Slipping into Summer event. That was why I suggested putting in at the Pejepscot Dam at Team Teabow's cache and pulling out at the boat launch at the Black bridge in Brunswick off Mill Street behind Cumberland Farms.

That was just a suggestion. We could put in at the cache and have someone at the other end waiting for us when we get there to shuttle us back to pick up our cars.

This is just and idea. I will go with the flow.

hte only thing with that is that is not an easy place to put in and wh yI sugested putting in @ almond joy cache instead. Also by milage it would be a little closer or at least the same distance. Up that way we could put in around gardiner or augusta too.

Sorry for the Mom (Cheryls)went to Maine MED on June 3rd, ended up having a 4 way bypass on June 6th and didn't get discharged until June 17th. Our time has been spent at Maine Medical. Mom is feeling better now and at home recuperating.

On to the kayak event.

OH MY!!!! We just looked at the calendar and we are at a family reunion that weekend in Damariscotta. Shoot, looks like we won't be able to make it to Rik's event either. Dang!!

Geesh, we are sorry. We were looking forward to both events. Would some one else like to run with this?

If no one else will take this on I will work on it.

Why don't we all just show up at the event with our kayaks on our car and come up with a Master Plan there?
I'm game.

That would be fine but how would we post the event on if you do not have coordinates for the event.

Duh, sorry. Missed the point about it being an event.

I am definatly looking forward to doing a bit of kayaking. Anyone think we could make it from the Brunswick portage to the Bath picnic area then have a picnic there?

If everyone is up for driving 21 miles to Brunswick on Sunday form the event then I am game.

as long as the driving is south from you I will go for the paddle....if you all head north....then maybe I will pass.
I do plan on attending - but my plans can change daily.
I am looking forward to coming up to play with everyone!!!

I think RobT has the best answer so far. We can put in in Brunswick at the boat launch along the river with the walking path (Water street I think) and paddle that area. Does anyone know what the tide will be on that day?

RobT do you want to put this event on and post it. We may need to find out the tide for that day first.

Sun July 13

LOW 6:57 AM EDT / 0.50 ft
HIGH 11:07 AM EDT / 3.28 ft
LOW 6:59 PM EDT / 0.82 ft
HIGH 11:17 PM EDT / 3.80 ft

I can post the event just need to nail down a few of the details and we are good.

I figure that we would put in at water street and then either get out at the Bay Bridge landing or if people were game we could go all the way over the the landing in bath. There are 3 caches that we could easally get if we wanted to (one that I want to get). The only issue would be we would need to plan on a little car shuffling as it would be alot easier to go down stream and not try to go back up. :)

Carol, This would be south of his house and at worst case we would get out of the water on 10 miles from 295 so it is pretty close.

What does everyone else think?

Im looking forward to this particular weekend this year. I had to postpone some of my plans this year, but I am hoping I wont have to give this up also.
thanks for thinking south of Litchfield :)

If your talking about the boat launch near the Bath bridge then I think that may be a little to far some some of use. That is over 12 miles by water.

If we go to the Bay bridge landing then that is about 4 miles. That may be more of what we are looking for. I know Carol brought a 1 person canoe the last time we did the paddle event. I don't know what she is brining this time.

How about Woodbury Pond, GCYAX4? It's a lot closer to the cookout.

I paddle a canoe solo.....
and of course I like to paddle easy and talk to everyone-
Please don't finalize this on me....I will tag along until its time to head home.

I think Tat says it well though- lets paddle close to the food! :)

I was looking at the distance now that I am at home and can see the maps and bath would be 13 miles so that would be along day. Baybridge would be a nice easy run of 4 to 5 miles.

I looked at the map and woodburry pond is another idea I just do not know the area but would be game to that idea as well.

Let me know what you guys think,

water st in brunswick to bay bridge then we could probally go somewhere in cooks corner for a snack

One of the quiet waters paddles. GC15EEJ Don't Tell me where to Grow. Also Water Lily is nearby. This is only 23 miles by road from the event, and about a half hour drive. Being a pond it would be suitable for everyone. Just a thought.

Launch: N43 57.095 W70 10.176

We could help someone with their earlier DNF....

How about Woodbury Pond, GCYAX4? It's a lot closer to the cookout.
Woodbury Pond is a good option. That is less then 5 miles form the house and it is a boat launch. I have put in there before. If we wanted to we could put in at Woodbury Pond and paddle to within 1/2 mile from my house to where we put in the first time we all paddled together after my event two years ago. That is all part of the same lake chain.

We could all come back to the house after and throw some burgers and dogs on the grill.
