I was chatting with someone in national chat last night about Cache Like It's 2001 (http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=8cd5ed2e-db21-4697-906b-4a839746fa51) (GC146JV) by Sudonim (http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?id=198654) (5/5) and realized it's just passed it's one year anniversary and only been logged by 3 people - Myself, Msteelee, and Tat.

Out of the 49 caches placed in 2001, there are only twenty-one 2001 caches left available. Too bads to see a few of them go, they were classics.

I was curious if anyone is working on this challenge and how close they are?

Just to add, some of these are really fun to do, not easy, but fun. Water Walker and Two If By Sea were two of my favorite caches to do. Barter's Outsmarter was one of the first caches I ever did, back in Dec of 2003.

I am working on this to the point that I have a list of what I need and am planning on getting them. If all goes well three on my list will go down this week.

we have gotten 6 of them and are trying to get the rest by adding one into our cache run day. we made our 700th cache fort point delight and plan on trying to get the rest by the end of this summer if things go well.

Funny that you mentioned this . . . while looking at caches in the Bangor area the other day I saw this and thought about doing this at some point -- unfortunately I have very few of the caches on this list . . . even with it pared down to the current number.

The longer you wait, the easier it gets....unfortunately:(

Does anyone have these on a map? I could do it the long way, but being lazy. Thanks!

Put them into an excel spread sheet with the general town locations - happy to share if you would like that.

I have some serious work to do on this challenge.

If we are in the area of a 2001 cache we usually try to grab it. At this point we have 6 left. We did Jammer on the forth and it was awesome. The water flowing over Angel Falls was beautiful.

I got three today in one trip. Barters Outsmarter, One if by Land, and Two if by sea.

All very nice BLRT caches in great shape. The two if by sea is done easily with a canoe (that's what we used) or a kayak.

This almost kind of sounds like a little bit, the Delorme Challenge.

Cache on!

I still need 12, but one is currently disabled. I have the 2001 challenge pop up as my closest cache most every day here in Bangor reminding me I need to get the rest of them. It's going to be tough to finish it this summer with my hectic schedule. (sigh) Maybe next year.;)

Okay, if anyone gets the crazy idea of going for Rogue Rocks or Jammer, contact me. I'll split the gas money....
I have a long way to go to get this one!

Jammer isn't too far from Eustis (as the crow flies anyway), so you could get it if you come to the September Eustis event. "Geocache" is on the way to Eustis from Kingfield. Three of the caches are in Boothbay Harbor, One If By Land, Two If By Sea and Barter's Outsmarter. Get Out Of Dodge is on the River Road From Damariscotta to Boothbay. And Patty's Mount Battie is of course, in Camden.

Does that help any?

I have only 5 left, but DNF'd Hemlock today. 3 more of them are in So.Maine and then Jammer, I'll get when we head to Eustis in the Fall.

Then there's The Well Rounded Cacher.......only 8 more to go. :)

The NH webcam, virtual, Earthcache challenge........only 1 more to go :D

I'm still working on the second Vermont 3+ DeLorme Challenge.......many more to go. :o

The good news.....Maine's Unique and Natural AS Degree...done! I'll sign the log next time I see TAT.

Some days I'm just challenged to get up. :p

Hemlock seems like Old470 - People either find it fairly quick or they look for hours. We looked well over an hour on the first attempt, would have gambled money it was missing. Part of it is the terrain rating - it's not a 1, but probably no more than a 1.5. I know that's only half a point, but that's the difference between being able to reach it from a wheelchair or not being able to.

It's good to see a number of people are working on this cache!

I spoke with a cacher who had done the Hemlock cache before and gave me a hint.......and it still didn't help. I climbed all over that bridge. I'm taking hints per a PM.

I think Hemlock was my personal record for length of time searching before the find. I was there for 1 1/2 hours with muggles on both ends of the bridge, the sun going down and me with no flashlight. I gave up a couple of times, went back to the car and then said, "no, I need this one to finish out 2001". I finally, in desperation, looked in a new spot, knowing it wasn't there, and then signed the log.

Most of our team tried for Jammer on the ninth and it just didn't happen. Probably my (Sarah's) most disappointing dnf (which I need to go log).

We have six not to far from the house and ar ehoping to knock another couple off next week :)
