I hope that no matter your political affiliation you have been watching or at least following history unfolding at the Democratic Convention. I'm not affiliated with a political party, have never even register to vote, but I do follow what goes on in our country. This is something people my age would never have believe possible just a few short years ago. We should all feel very American at this time in history, for this is what our country stands for. A country where anyone can grow up to be president.

They let a guy from Austria become Govener of California. At least Obama is an American. We need an American in the white house. This ------- that has been in office for 8 MISERABLE years has slowly disassembled our strenghth. Finacially, Emotionally, and Physically.
I hope Obama wins!!!!! But, Just like the CHAD problem we had, I think the Powers That Be are going to stick Mc Cain in office.

Agreed . . . no matter what party (or no party) affiliation (I personally subscribe to the Hiram Party with their party plank of "Ready to go caching and camping anytime and anywhere";):D) I think this shows that anyone truly can become President (or at least a Presidential candidate) -- and what is truly amazing is for folks of Vic's age (well actually Vic just getting to his age is truly amazing ;):D) who have lived through and seen the racial unrest and prejudice of the 1960s and can see how much has changed in just 40 or so years. Whether you're for or against or neutral in your support of Obama I think (as Vic does) that this shows that anyone can truly become President regardless of race . . . and maybe some day we can say also regardless of sex.

On the flip side . . . I don't believe that anyone can become president . . . I think the main prerequisite these days is that anyone can become president . . . if they have money or friends with money! ;):D

Politics and religion . . . the two hot topics of BBS that start out innocently and never end well. ;):D Also the two topics where folks usually are quite polarized in their views -- and no matter how much they try to argue their position inevitably folks who don't share their opinion are rarely if ever swayed to their point of view.

However, I don't think Vic's thread is meant to be political in the sense of being political . . . rather it seems as though he is just commenting that like him or hate him . . . Obama has made history and we are living in a historical moment (although come to think of it . . . we're always living in a historical moment ;):D).

Now that I've stated that, let me tell you why you should vote for my candidate . . . and then I'll tell you why you should convert to my religion of choice. ;):D

I fully agree. This is a historic moment. But once someone starts advocating for a particular candidate, it goes beyond historic and becomes political.

Sorry To VicBicker , I read into it wrong.

We've had A African American run for a political Party before, and a woman, and a Porn Star, A Comedian and a Talk show host. Heck ANYONE can run for a political Party.
Historic that he's nominated. Not surprising, expected.
The real History maker is if he's Elected!!!!!!

Thanks.Bruce , I was so carefully trying to word this thread, so that it would not be about politics, but rather the change in America since we were kids. I don't know much, but do know not to start a thread about politics. FFJ has a command of the English language that being a hick from the sticks I lack. So from now on please address any comments to me to my newly appointed press secretary. He knows more about what I'm trying to say then I do.

Hillary and Barack are making history that's all I'm trying to say.

I appoligized to you for misinterpreting your post.
You did nothing wrong!!!!
I think FFJ should be nominated for the GCM.com board. I think the vote is coming soon. Maybe even a NewB. We need some Young Blood on the Board. :o:o

A) I don't think there are any nominations coming up.

B) I wouldn't be interested in serving on any Boards even if there was . . . I'm a follower and instigator . . . rather than being a leader

Following up on this . . . it looks like no matter what way folks vote we will be making history come November.

Vote Democrat . . . History = First African-American as President
Vote Republican . . . History = First Female as VP

Either way, it's history in the making

I had no problem at all with your message, Vic. It was the next message, that advocated a specific candidate, that set me off...

But thanks for posting your message. You're right - it is historic.

I agree with all of the above. And now that we have the female card added to the fray with McCain's pick I can say this: I've lived long enough to see a man on the moon, to see the Red Sox win the World Series, the Patriots win the Super Bowl, and now a truly historic presidential race. With geocaching added to my life, how heady can this be?

You know, my grandmother was born in 1900 and she used to tell me how lucky she had been. She saw one brother born in the living room and another brother die on the kitchen table while being operated on for a ruptured appendix. She went from horse and buckboard for daily transportation to see her father own the first "automobile" in Somerset County. From no electricity to an electrified house. She saw the newspaper stories about the Wright Brothers (man can fly!) and watched on television as Neil Armstrong placed his foot on the moon. She worked for years at Lakewood Theater and, at 5'1", she supported a 6'2" very intoxicated Vincent Price back to his cabin. When she got him to his door, (her name was Gladys) Vincent Price announced that instead of calling her glad-ass, from now on he would call her "happy-bottom"...and from then on he did.

Vic is absolutely correct.....these are historic times. No matter the outcome, revel in the fact that you were there. And be content to remember. Happy caching everyone.
