We have a Travel Bug contest going on over on GC.com. The competition is Northern New England (ME,NH,VT) versus Southern New Hampshire (MA,CT,RI). As a member of the North team, I'm looking for support from any Maine cachers who can help us keep the bugs moving northward into Maine, or who can help us grab bugs out of the South whenever possible.

The contest is non-commercial, and being done for fun only. It will last until the end of October, 2005. Complete details about the contest can be found at http://www.newenglandgeocaching.com/capflag.php. There is also a rather lengthy discussion going on in the GC.com New England forum.

If anybody wishes to help, please keep an eye out for any of the Capture the Flag TBs which are making their way around New England. There is currently one in Maine already, and I plan on pushing several more up that way as quickly as I can.

RULOST2? and I are making arrangements to pick up a Capture the Flag TB in New Hampshire next week on behalf of the "North" team. It needs to get to Acadia park for extra points. Anyone I can hand it off to in the central Maine/Bangor area who can get it there?

Here's the TB listing:

It has to get to the "Picnic at Somes Sound" cache on MDI:

If you can get it here, I can get it there. I know right where that cache is so it would be easy to drop it. This plan will work if you are coming during the week. I am supposed to be out of town next weekend. If it's next weekend I can place it the following week. I will be in Poland camping. So we could meet somewhere else. Let me know.

It's a ways away, but it is possible that when I travel to Vermont this summer that I could move this TB to the Vermont bonus cache (http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=107bf068-7be5-4369-a70c-018ade4b6eb5). I have friends in the area of the cache that I am hoping to visit while in Vermont. I'll keep an eye on the TB and see if it will work out.

My work is taking me to West Lebanon N.H. for 11 days first of June. Plan to be in the White River Junction area for that time. Will do what I can for the north.

The Capture the Flag TB's need to keeep moving to gain points, so any plans for a trip to Vermont later in the summer are iffy.

Ideally I can drop it in a cache here in central Maine, and have someone ready to pick it up and move it to MDI. The main concern is to NOT let someone from "The South" grab it.

Brad - We'll be back Thursday, but if you're heading out for the weekend, perhaps we could meet at the I95 cache for a hand-off? Or somewhere like that?

Right now, the only TB in a South cache is in Connecticut. Anyone going south that can grab the bug?

Maybe we should cement one to " Cindy " That might prevent someone from the south taking it over. :D hehehe

I've made arrangements to pass "Cindy" on. The person I'm getting the Capture the Flag TB from is named Cindy, and wants the block! LOL!

Thanks for the help, everybody!

On Friday I dropped two of the bugs near Bath. One of the bugs has already been picked up by (what I think is) a North team supporter, but the other bug needs a ride towards the Bonus Cache on MDI.

Hubby and I are planning on going up to Quebec City in June... maybe we could get it and drop it off in Jackman or such.

Anyone live near Springvale, Maine?

A local cacher - Mr. Element - has one of the Capture the Flag (CTF) B's, and it would be great if someone could meet him at a cache, get the TB, and get it on the move again.

If a CTF TB is held by a cache for more than 3 days, penalty points are deducted daily, so keeping th TB's moving is important.

Here's the TB log:

And here's a link to the CTF page:

If anyione is interested in being an ACTIVE participant in this contest, let me know. Hopefully we can keep most of the TB's in northernNew England.

If you want distance, Northern Maine is the way to go :) Roughly 770 points for every travel bug that gets near me in Caribou. I don't think the South will drive up this way to get them :p

I need to take a group of CTF TB's to the bonus cache at Somes Sound. I would like to have another cacher to hand them off to. If you'd be interested let me know. I was thinking around noon.

I am dropping the TB's today and Parmachenee is grabbing them back up. Does someone in the Bangor area want to take them for awhile. They need to get into another cache within 48 hours and then keep moving. Preferably out of the hands of the South players. I find this interesting but I am not going to go nuts over it. My dropping them in MDI will add around 3000 points to the score. I consider that not too bad. Please let me know ASAP, Thanks

Wow, nice job folks :-)

If at any point you get tired of shuffling 'em on a daily basis, let us know over on the CtFNorth yahoo group (which you can get invited to by contacting Flask via gc.com) --my pals & I are enjoying the game, but it can get to be a bit much without a break every now and again, I found.

Nice points!

:-)

Dropping those bugs today were worth 4052 points for the north. We are kicking the souths butt big time. :D

If Parmachenee picks the bugs up in MDI and drops in Bangor and the TB's go back to MDI do we get that same 4k points again? I could get them back there this week......

You can get credit for the bonus cache more than once, but only once a month.

That's why we'd like to keep these bugs in Maine until the end of the month, and then get them back to the New Hampshire people so they can get them into the caches there and in Vermont.

Thanks...

If we want to get them back to MDI in June, let me know..I've got a pretty flexible scheudle these days and wouldn't mind taking a ride. Also, I'm going to Mass the end of the month and will keep an eye open to pick up others from the south.
