I received an email from the "AOL team" today and it stated that they could not validate my credit card and would need me to click here ______. Not thinking I clicked and it brought me to a page that looked real, but every link brought up a pop up and said please enter your credit card information to continue using AOL. Hmmmm......AOL has been FREE for well over a year and the credit card I was using to pay the bill has been defunct for 3 years. Nothing more than another phishing scam!

Delete the email and don't even open it.

Sheesh! AOL has been free??? Tell me more! I have an "emergency" AOL account (actually, it's the legacy of my Q-Link account from 25 years ago), that I use when I can't get any other internet access. I think I'm paying $9.95 a month for the privilege of maintaining the AOL account.

I think an AOL account is free, including site access and email and whatnot, but AOL internet access is not. But I haven't used them for about 15 years, so don't take my word for it.

Q-Link??? Wow! There's a blast from the past. I remember that service.

I used Prodigy. Basically like beta max in a VHS world..:rolleyes::p:eek:

Hehehe I remember compuserve too. I also remember the days of local BBSs.

I remember volunteering at a local library so I could hook into the internet through Bowdoin college for research. The internet wasn't graphically based back then and quite boring. BBS...oh wow a blast from the past ;) So then the next step was Compuserve and prodigy at 2,400!!!! And paying per minute of use!!

Wow, glad I'm not the only one that used that stuff.

There used to be a statewide one called TKA. It was a pretty fun time because they were a multi-node BBS where people could talk together and they even had the occasional gatherings/dances. I have often thought about trying to start up an invitation only telnet BBS. It is a possibility but have not had much time to plan it.

:DNow this does bring back memories......... Logging into the university conection to telnet Rutgers and a few other BBS's on the internet, MUDS, and I remember the days when I helped administer a node for FidoNet for the state of Montana. I remember going from 1200 Baud to 9600 Baud and thinking I was almost as fast as conected to the server :) Now I look at 56k dialup and groan when I have to use it...... :D:D:D:D

I still have both my Commodore 64 and my Commodore 128 - with all peripherals. Sheesh! I remember spending 15 minutes loading a simple word processing program from the cassette deck. LOL!

Double Sheesh! The Commodore 128 had 128 kilobytes of RAM. The computer I just finished building has 8 GIGABYTES of RAM! LOL!

Doesn't seem that long ago I was working w/a 286 and 20mb HD. Now I have an SD card in my GPS that's 32gig!! My how times change!!

At the risk of appearing to "top" everyone's story....:rolleyes:.....One of the first jobs out of school for me was working in a quality control lab of a paper mill. During the process of testing pulp, of course, calculations had to made. Device of choice? Slide rule.

Being from Waldo County we were always at a disadvantage when it came to math . . . due to all of the hay bailing "incidents" . . . well I should say some of us were at a disadvantage . . . there were some folks who had a distinct advantage when it came to doing math since they had extra toes and fingers . . . a benefit I guess from genetic inbreeding. ;):D And yes, I am kidding and poking fun at my roots.

I keep an AOL account as a "backup". If I'm somewhere I can't get internet access by any other means, I can always use dialup to a 1-800 number to get to my AOL account and the internet. It's worked a couple of times for me.

Besides, I've had this AOL (QLink) account for about 25 years, and I'm kinda sentimental...

I use a cell phone about 3 times a year, so my cheap TracFone is great for me! LOL!
