My daughter has a friend that wants to get into geocaching with her. She was looking at the unit on line:

They wanted my opinion, but I know nothing about it.

I don't know that particular model. I have used the PN-40 and it was pretty good.

I found New in box PN-30's for about $100 on other sites.

I had a PN 30 and I like it,but had a problem loading caches into it from my computer,so I sent it back.Just about then I found out that you could buy PN40's for about the same price that I paid for the 30. So I bought one,and I don't have any problem with loading geocaches into it either..Probably a Garmin would be a better choice--everyone has one.Well almost everyone..I use my GPS more for hiking and the maps I like.(Good Maps)

I have a PN-30, but I got it late this year and haven't got out caching with it yet. I haven't had any problems loading caches on to it with either Cache Register or GSAK. (I would use GSAK over Cache Register.) The maps are great, but there is an issue switching between certain zoom levels with the USGS Quad maps that resets the unit, but if you avoid those levels it is fine.
I like it more than my Venture HC, but that is the only other unit I have used.

I'm using the Venture HC. What is better in the PN-30?

The maps that come with it with Topo 8 are great. Details down to ATV trails without having to pay extra. It can store 1000 waypoints instead of 500 on the HC and supports paperless caching. My only complaint about it is that it doesn't use a regular USB cable.

I might have to consider an upgrade. What kind of cable does it use?

Here is a link to the cable:

I have the PN 20 and it does well by me at this point, although if I were to upgrade I would go for either the pn-40 or the Oregon. I like the maps on the Delorme units and the ability to download more maps cheaply as I want them but kinda miss the electronic compass
