Hi all!
My name is Donna, I cache as "Arrow One, and have been caching for 5 years with 1183 finds so far. :)
I dont get out of Jersey much, and am planning a trip to your beautyful state in October. The 17th to the 23rd to be exact. Im gonna be in the Bangor area, I want to stay at the Bangor Courtyard Marriot.
Im gonna concentrate on the "A run for Karen" caches and would like to see other areas as well. I have a week! :)
I'm hoping to meet some of you if anyone is available to give me a tour anytime during my stay.
I just have to figure out how to get there, since I have an old car, dont fly, and hopefully they'll rent me a car with a debit card. lol
Hope to see you in October!

Sheesh! Go ahead and fly. US Airways has a couple of direct flights a day to Bangor from Philadelphia - only 1 1/2 hours by air! LOL!

Well if you've got the time I enjoyed the Battleship Cache Series in the City . . . and you can always make the short jaunt down to Mt. Desert Island for some of the picturesque caches there . . . plus it will give you an excuse to check out Acadia and eat some seafood.

Hehheh . . . I had to look up A Cache For Karen since I didn't remember doing it . . . didn't realize it was the same as The Stud Mill Road cache series. Eikodia . . . did you rename this cache or am I just being my normal clueless self and didn't realize this was the cache series name?

I thought that was the starting cache for the series. :) See, not from the area and I already messed up! lol
Oh! The seafood is a must do for me! I love seafood! Thanks for the suggestion.

That is the west end of the beginning, so you've got it right.

If you debit card is branded VISA or MC, most likely not a problem however a portion will be "held" or approved when renting a car.

Fall is an absolutely beautiful time to come to Maine, I would suggest not coming any later as the changing color leaves will be off the trees. The days can be pleasantly warm and the nights cool.....no mosquitoes or blackflies. It really is a wonderful time.

The caching community is very friendly, always willing to help when possible and if you hit it right, make an event. Speaking of which, you may want to consider coming during the week of September that includes the 23rd thru the 25th when the Useless in Eustis event is going on. That area has plenty of caches, plenty of friendly cachers and is one of the most beautiful spots in Maine.....one not to be missed.

Let me be the first to welcome you......even if it's electronically.

Thanks PM28570!
I decided Im gonna rent a car and drive up. I can get a few caches in other states on the way there and back as well. I like to enjoy the scenery that you cant get while flying. :)
I cant wait till October!

You can't make a respectable trip to Maine without stopping at the What in the World Cache? (http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=788865f5-5d08-465d-8b62-4eca70ad99ec) (GC6D43) by Ghosthunter (http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?id=6459) (2/1) while passing through Yarmouth!

Regarding Ekidokai's mention of my You Sank My Battleship! (http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=3cd31003-b73f-4ba5-8818-ad0695143186) (GCB688) by brdad (http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?id=61905) (4/2), people seem to enjoy it but if you're coming up for numbers you may want to skip it, expect it to take 3.5 - 5 hours alone. The other multis mentioned should take a little less time.

Maybe we can get some Bangor locals to meet up at a restaurant and say hello during your visit!

Sheesh! Great suggestion! Since it's right on I95, it's a quick stop. And RULost2? advises that they have nice bathrooms, too. ;);)

As for wild animals, there are venomous gaboon vipers down Saco way, but we just had a run of cold weather so it might have done in any remaining ones.

I thought 295 went by Yarmouth, not I95?

For numbers and nature ,there are many caches in the Bangor City Forest, and on the edge of that forest is a great boardwalk out into a peat bog, I think it is about a 1 mile loop. The web page for the boardwalk is http://www.oronobogwalk.org/

These are the caches in the city forest, give or take....

I have a few nature caches 20 miles east of Bangor but you might have trouble getting a car near them. But in that same area is Little and Big Peaked mountains (Often referred to as the "Chick Hill area"). There are great views there, though I am a bit partial because I grew up at the foot of the mountain. :)

It is a one mile hike from parking to the top of Big peaked.

Wow! I have quite a list gathered! :) Although I do want to get some numbers the first day or so, I do want to spend some time on a few hikes too. My favorite thing is to be out in nature. Oh, any wild animals or bugs I need to be aware of?

Wild animals? Well there is Hiram . . . he can get pretty wild after a few Guinness . . . oh wait a minute, I'm thinking of me and the Woodchucks. ;):D

Bugs? Blackflies this time of year are horrible . . . the one thing in Maine I cannot stand . . . but by the time you come up they should be pretty much non-existent. Mosquitoes . . . but they're slow and generally aren't too bad unless you're in the deep woods.

If you work your way down to Acadia National Park you should stop at Birdsacre and the cache there . . . lots of cool birds and a cache to boot.

This is an absentee cacher as of late he has several caches that have gone defunct so don't even bother. The Garden is worth the visit though.
