I stopped into the new Marden's super-store in Scarborough, Maine today. I had been told by someone that they had GPS devices for rather cheap....

... that was an understatement! They have a selection of GPS devices to rival LL Beans or Cabellas, and for dirt cheap prices! I myself bought a Garmin Oregon 450t for $210.00 + tax! They also have a 30 day return policy with a receipt.....

Other devices I saw were a lot of Garmin 60CSx units, Garmin Dakotas, Delorme PN-40s, some Magellans, a whole bunch of various eTrex models, a few other levels of Oregons, including an Oregon 550t still in the box for $400.00, Lowrances, and some I didn't recognize.

They also had an extensive selection of various car navigation systems including Nuvis and TomToms, and if you are a fisherman as well, they have some great deals on Lowrances.

If anyone is looking for a GOOD cheap unit, check them out! Or if you know of anyone who may have asked about where to find these types of units for cheap, let them know!

Who's aren't? Obama is our President.... if they are in shambles NOW, imagine them once taxes go up with "health care reform" at the start of the new year.....

Yes Dick and Brad.... I did buy an Oregon 450t... it was CHEAP, I wanted a back up unit that didn't require constant attention and could operate without all the complex stuff I have to do with the PN, and I wanted to have a good one that was easy to use for my girlfriend to use when we go caching, so she can feel included ha ha.... 200 is not bad for an Oregon 450t....

Marden's has a wonderful return policy. Happy to hear of the bargins - remember - "I should have bought it when I saw it at Marden's". Things don't last long.

All but a couple from the huge stack of Pelican boxes I saw in Ellsworth on Sunday were gone today. No backpacks left and they had everything from Keltys on down. Some serious camping and other inventory has gone out the door..........I suspect in the other stores too.

Damn, and here I thought my finances were screwed up from having a fire in our apartment building and having to deal with all the expenses of that (there was stuff that wasn't covered by insurance, stuff that city ordinances said we had to do). And having to deal with mold in an enclosed porch. And having a "reliable" tenant stiff us on three months rent.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Hmmm . . . I may make a trip down tomorrow.

A few questions though:

1) Where exactly in Scarborough is Mardens located?
2) Is there much of a difference in the Oregon 450T and 550T?

Did you try the Waterville Marden's? They usually split incoming stock among all the stores. As a matter of fact, I'm leaving for a meeting in a little while where I might see Paul LePage. I'll ask him! LOL! ;);)

The Marden's in Scarborough is located where the Wal-Mart used to be. It's on the Payne Road, but I don't have an exact address.

Thanks . . . I'm one of those hicks from the North . . . so I don't know where the Walmart used to be . . . but I figure if I stick to the Payne Road I'd be able to find it.

Called the Waterville Mardens . . . guy seemed a bit clueless . . . but said he was pretty sure they didn't have any GPSr.

Sorry about that. If you get off the turnpike at the Maine Mall exit (#45 I believe), you'll go right to the Payne Road. I think from northbound (like southbound) you'll see a big white building that's now a Goodwill store. If you see that, hang a left, and Marden's is on your left in a little over 1/2 a mile.

I was there this afternoon. I saw they had some 60CSX's and some Oregons (550T, I think). One PN-40 out of the box but bundled together with some Topo software held together by an elastic band. I think I also saw a Nuvi 1330 and a TomTom.

Mardens is on Payne Rd south of the Mall (come on, you are a Geocacher.... don't you know how to use your GPS to navigate to places?)

550t has a camera. 450t does not

When you can enter in "The Old Wal-Mart" in your GPSr and it takes you there, now that's a neat GPSr!

When you can enter in "The Old Wal-Mart" in your GPSr and it takes you there, now that's a neat GPSr!

Considering Wal Mart does show up as a POI on most contemporary GPSrs, heck even on my Delorme (which is a pain in the ass for POIs), you can find the new Mardens. Especially because the POI will either list the old Wal Mart, or the new one. They are literally right next to each other. You can see each other from every point of each other's parking lots. So, pretty much, if you search Wal Mart Scarborough, Maine in your GPSr's POIs, yes you will find the Mardens. It's called common sense, and deductive reasoning.

Or, considering we are online here, I am sure most of our members know how to use Google.... which would alone, answer the question of where the Mardens is located. Come on.....

Yeah the deals are hit or miss. I will admit that. But hey, it's good to see that us Maine Cachers do have another local store (run by a GREAT Republican.... borderline libertarian, Paul LePage) to check out when it comes to GPSr shopping! ha ha

Tonight I stopped by the Waterville store on the way back from VT - nothing. I imagine any with a decent price sold fast and those with less than good price sold soon after. There's plenty of people that will pay near full price there assuming it's a great deal!

The new Mardens in Scarboro did have a Garmin 450T that was tucked in with the Nuvi's. You have to look closely as they are mixed together. We were there at 9:30 A.M. this morning.

Lots of 60CSx models and PN40's. Good prices!

Thanks folks for the info . . . never made it down due to prior commitments . . . sounds as though the pickings were pretty slim in any case.

I did manage to stop by the Waterville Mardens on Friday . . . and like Dave found nothing . . . well lots of fishing poles . . . but no GPSrs.

There all gone and were only given to "young" people by order of the general manager.:p If you're over 61, you have no business wandering around loose in the woods, gps or not! ( Sheesh, I'm pretty close...guess I'll stay home!)
