View Full Version : Segway Event
Most of you probably know what segway is. Look to the left on my picture, I'm standing on one. Segway is a revolutionary eco friendly personal human transporter. It's easy and fun to ride. I'm thinking about a Segway Geocaching Event, where you will have an opportunity to try it on your own. Admission to the event would be something around $100 maybe more, maybe less, I need to know whether you are interested and what price are you willing to pay. Event would be held probably in Portland area. I can tell you Segway riding experience is worth every penny.
TeamHorwich 07-26-2010, 09:45 PM sounds great - a little steep...any chance to get it more around $50?

I'm not sure about the price, I just wanted to point out it won't be $10 :)
$50-$100 is expected price. I know it's a lot and I wanted to know whether this event has a chance.
team barbieri 07-26-2010, 10:04 PM Sound like alot of fun but........Have you seen any of the videos of people crashing instead of caching? Also what if we have done most of the caches in portland..will there be new ones for the event. ( I still need to do Back Cove Bonanza) :D

I felt off twice of Segway :) But just because I was doing some crazy things with it. I'm not sure about place, time or price yet. I have some estimates and I need your input.
Ekidokai 07-27-2010, 12:33 AM I would consider the trip way down to Portland and then pay $50 to take a ride on a Segway. It would need to be a good long ride and maybe set up a chance to win one or something like that as a draw.
hollora 07-27-2010, 10:03 AM It would all depend, heavily, on the date for me. The run around the cove would be fun - also would Segway be possible for the WhereIGo?
pm28570 07-27-2010, 01:24 PM Great idea Cano....far different theme and I believe a good idea. Like others, the date would be a factor as well as price. $100 is more than I would be willing to spend, I would consider something in the $ 40-50 range depending on what one gets for an experience. Again, nice way to shake it up!
brdad 07-27-2010, 08:22 PM We might be interested, price would make some difference.
Mainiac1957 07-27-2010, 09:22 PM And yes, date and final cost would be the determining factor for me as well.

Kinda sad. On the one hand you can say he died doing what he loved, on the other hand if he can't drive that durn thing maybe no one should....
I wonder how many inventors died from their own inventions?
TeamHorwich 09-27-2010, 01:03 PM He was not the inventor, but the (recent) owner of the company...

Correct, TH. I believe the inventor and the manufacturing company are in NH. Which by the way, developed a wheel chair that would climb stairs. In addition, they were at one time doing R&D on prosthetics that was pretty high speed stuff.
brdad 09-27-2010, 02:56 PM Ah, I read something into it that wasn't there. Either way, to die by the means of your livelihood does not seem like a good thing. Well, dying by any means is not so fun. But you know what I mean....
masterson of the universe 09-27-2010, 06:52 PM Cano, with all your segway travels, have you ever tried one of these (http://www.geeky-gadgets.com/dtv-shredder-is-a-segway-tank-12-09-2010/)? Seems like it would make for a dangerous ride. Kind of looks like a jet ski on tracks.

I've seen this one in action, but it's not a segway, it doesn't balance itself (because it doesn't need to) It would be a fun to ride it too.

yeah, didn't you see the can of moxie in the cup holder and the copilot reading an unle henry's??? :D:D:D
Ekidokai 09-28-2010, 02:01 PM That was good. The bumper looked like it almost came off the truck on that bump.
Draw back is when it rains you'll get wet. I don't do wet.
When near or in the mud, you're gonna look like a mud monster. I don't do mud.
In the snow it will be very cold. I don't do cold.
But it still looks like fun.
umop3plsdn 09-29-2010, 12:51 PM I couldn't imagine dying by my own invention or idea! Kind of ironic actually... Was looking through Digg and saw this: http://tinyurl.com/36zrnkx

Things like this are amazing. I love watching shows like Prototype This or Smash Labs where they come up with different ways of creating these products. It is a little scary though how lazy people could get with such automation. Every seen Wall E and how overall life could change people if they never had to walk again?

Forget Wall E . . . try RE-ality . . . stop by Walmart sometime . . . lots of very large people "zipping" around on the motorized carts.
Segway Geocaching Event may be coming to your town soon, very soon. Don't book anything on October weekends and get your $50 ready :)
