Our cache is one of the ones hit by this new maine bot...but this bot is currently hitting rhode island and mass caches too...wish groundspeak had a report abusive user button might hasten the process to get rid of them.

This bot hit a bunch of my watchlisted caches too. Anyone know of a way to report them?

I believe my husband contacted maine publisher this morning about them.

Yes the new one is Forest Defender. Was at over 3500 this morning. I deleted all the logs of my caches it found. About 20 so far. We all need to do the same.

already deleted the 2 logs on caches so far of ours that were hit

thought kev had emailed our maine publisher but apparently he didnt have time before leaving for work (i just talked to him) but i shot an email off now.

Your caches should be safe, they are not taking caches, just making bogus logs.

Actually no, we don't need to do the same. We pay groundspeak, it's their job. There is no point to manually delete 3500 logs when they can delete it with one SQL query.

The idea is that they SHOULD be able to manually delete those bogus logs. However, I'm not risking someone else's computer system and I deleted the logs on the caches that I own.

I'm just worried about some of the caches where the owner is no longer active, but the cache still is. Someone can easily trip over that log and mess up their compute system.

This could also be the reason why GC.com is shutting down at 2:00 PM our time for a site update. Just speculation on my part.

My view in life is that there is a positive in every negative. Yep, the bot got some of my caches and a whole lot of others in Maine. On the other hand.....I think it has the Delorme Challenge completed. :)

If you go to their blog site it has thousands of pictures of caches they have found taken and destroyed!! So our caches may not be safe! I had five caches "attacked" but they are all in remote areas and I am unable to check on any of them soon.:eek::eek::mad::mad:

After the long drive, and the strenuous hike I made with the parmachenees to find the Borestone Mountain cache on Saturday, I'm sure this bozo didn't get to the actual cache, even though it's logged as a find! :eek: However, I am also concerned about someone clicking on the link. Should I send an E-mail to groleau about it?

Sheesh! I ALWAYS click on "suspicious" links. It makes life interesting! LOL!
