Thank you to all who had put their names in for the board, and congratulations to those 3 other fine members that won.

And thanks for the time that the members took to vote. I hope that this will continue to spur you ALL on to participate and keep this website and valuable resource, a place that we are proud to be a part of.

Rick, would you mind sharing the total number of members who voted/participated? Obviously not a vote breakdown.

I see no harm in sharing even the number of votes per person. Having been one of the people interested in being on the board, I don't mind others knowing how many people voted for me.

Besides, it'll show how many people Dan had to pay.

There are 50 threads in the voting forum, so we can guess about 50 people voted. I just want to know who posted the "Anyone but brdad" vote!

Two of those threads were test threads from when I set up the forum. That means actually 48 voted.

The "cheap shots" would be fine if they were just cheap shots. What most of the people here find difficult to accept are the accusations levied against the Maine Publisher and the comments that go even further beyond the pale than the "hanging chads" comments. Granted, that comment was beyond the pale as well considering the context in which it was made and considering the fact that Chad seems to feel like people here on the forum are out to get him. We all need to just stop with the comments that are inflammatory and be adults. This is a family hobby and the forum may be frequented by some of our friend's kids.

Chadd needs to stop and consider what he's saying. But, you know what, we all need to stop and consider what we're saying. We all need to keep in mind that this forum is not connected to geocaching.com. It meshes with gc.com very well, but it's not really a part of that website. If anyone feels that another user's post is offensive, pouncing on them in the public forum really doesn't solve anything. If you're offended, the absolute best thing you can do is either post in the board area and let that process take it's course or just place the person you are offended by on ignore. Demanding that someone conform to your way of thinking usually doesn't work well. If what they say truly offends you, ignore them and move on.

With all that said, can't we just let this controversy die down and everyone move on to getting ready to go out and have a ton of fun finding caches?

I know its hard for some to not respond to things they dont agree with, Like my response to whats going on, but by doing so it just adds fuel to the fire. When accusations are made at a certain individual, let that person respond to it if they want to.
I agree with you with the exception that it is not just Chadd, but everyone needs to stop and consider what they are saying. People need to take the high road and respect everyone in this community:)

With that said I would like to hear more stories about caching, exciting places, great finds, or if you want to talk about other cachers tell me how they have made your caching experience better.:D

Sheesh! No! People are conversing, which is good. I've always held the believe that there is nothing wrong with a diverging thread, as long as it does not detract from the original purpose of the thread - in this case, a discussion of the Advisory Board results - which I believe has been pretty well covered.

I disagree when it happens in threads of site value. This was an announcement from the board regarding the elections. Perhaps more would have commented on the original topic if they didn't fear interrupting the current alternative conversations.

John, you hit that right on the head. That is part of what inflames Chadd about this site. Early on he was jumped on for comments that he saw others making often.

I agree that not all his comments were proper and he tended to get vulgar, but the hypocrisy you noted is what really set him off.

So going forward, perhaps the inside cliquish banter could be minimized and the threads could remain more focused. BRDAD has tried to address this is a recent comment, but he was slapped down by one of the chatterboxes.

I noticed years ago that whenever someone from the "outside" tried to comment on a thread it acted a thread killer. After a while you learn that it simply is not worth sorting through the banter looking for something of value.

And this comment is "on-topic" in what way?:confused:

But disagreeing with a comment is hardly a "slap-down". And if being an active participant in discussions on GCM.org is being a "chatterbox", I accept that mantra proudly. In fact, I retire my title of "Curmudgeon". :D:D

Been away for a couple of days and when I read all this stuff my first response is an apology for my comment. It was not intended as a put down or derogatory, but merely an off hand way of saying that as one who tallied the votes I did not observe any in-discrepancy in the voting. I guess I could have done better with that instead of trying to be funny.

Actually Chadd and I seem to get along just fine. Oh we have had a rough spot or two, but nothing to severe. I count him as a geo-friend just like each of the folks here.

Now, I do not always agree with everyone (that's news right?) but for the greater part I can get along with just about everyone.

So, I hope this storm passes and that we can move on.

The new board has been actively discussing a lot of issues and plans to make this site a better place for geocaching commentary. Not a negative word has been spoken about ANY cachers....imagine that! Perhaps those that chime in here can follow our lead and try to keep personal attacks and comments to a minimum?

Don't be shy about ideas you have or places you'd like this org. to go. We'll listen, I promise.:)
