Let me get a count number of hands, show who would like to have a Aroostook County BBQ and cache day some weekend in August? I dont mind setting something up and finding a nice big area for the geocachers. Maybe a spot to tent out if needed as well. Who would all be interested in doing such? Please reply, or email: cyrjordan3@hotmail.com

Would be hard to resist that's for sure! There are a bunch of caches i didn't get to when I was there recently. Depending on the weekend, I just might be able to do it.

I'd love to go, but I'll be in Montana the 6th and 13th, some of us are planning a kayak trip on the 20th. So, the 27 looks good! Wow, there is just tooooo much to do in the summer in Maine!!! :)

Count us in, seeing how my monster-in-laws live there, it will be a good opportunity to visit with the kids.

Boy, I would love to get to the County for a caching event, seeing as how I am from Houlton and lived in Monticello for years before moving for a job, but my weekends in August are booked...darn it all! Twin 2 of Hiker Twins

What about the last weekend in July?
I will be in Vermont the last weekend in July. My only weekends open are in September except for the weekend of the 17th. I really got myself overbooked in July and August :( this year.

Last weekend of July is good for me. I really need to get the covered bridge since I once lived on the Foxcroft Road.

How about Septemeber 17th and 18th. A sat/sunday. Having a BBQ Sat night and all caching/travel home Sunday? I can help provide A list of local hotels and/or camping grounds. We can hold the BBQ at a BBQ park in either Washburn, ME, Presque Isle, ME or Caribou, ME.

I am planning on having another cashe bashe in Bangor on Sept. 10th this year. Just didn't want to get two on the same weekend, not that there would be anything wrong with that. OK :D

I can not make the a September 10th event weekend either. I will be up in The Forks in Maine hosting my own Appalachian Trail event for all the thru-hikers that have hiked from Goergia to Maine. It was a big success last year. I am looking forward to it again this year.

We will plan to attend! Haven't been up that way for quite some time--last week in July or first/second week in August would be great!

Hey Jordan, Seth told me about this a few minutes ago, I won't be around the weekend of the 13th in August, other than that, count me in, I'll help if you need anything. Trafton Lake would be a good place to camp and have a bbq, plus there's a cache there and also if anyone want to do any caches in Canada, they're only 15 minutes away. Keep me posted man!

As a side note: The Northern Maine Travel Bug Hotel is open for business :)

Sorry guys, but the first weekend in August, I am gone...

blevesque, thanks I have been meaning to contact you.

Is there a way to do a poll, it would show a raise of hands easier what weekend is better for them. Not much talk on the Weekend of 8/20 and 21. Does anyone wanting to make the trip up have plans that they can not make it this weekend?
I know its almost impossible to have one weekend work for everyone, but its worth a shot to get as much people that want to come up, come. So basically once we can set a date and get it known, we can start organizing this.

Yes, I was thinking Trafton as well. Trafton is a lake in Limestone me, about 20 miles from Presque Isle and 10 from Caribou for all of you guys not familiar with the county.

Please let me know and if we could set a date by mid-end this week thats one thing on the list we could check. Thanks for all your comments!

Um... check out the kayak trip link. It looks like that is starting to take off now that Deer Isle is the destination. Rick is planning on 20-21, I think.

Yes I am planning an event for August 20 - 21. It looks like people are agreeing on Deer Isle. I will call some of the campgrounds tomorrow and see if we can get a section set aside for us geocachers.

Jordan - sounds fun! When you say "put this in the events" do you mean in the Maine website or that you will be requesting that this be an event through the GC.com website? You have plenty of time to make it an "official event" if you want to - you have to submit the request a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the date.

Ok I will keep that in mind right now. I have it on here as a event, not yet on GC.com

They are doing some site maintenance tonight so you might have to wait to post it tomorrow.I just tried to do a pocket query and they are down for maintenance.

IT WILL BE $3.00 A HEAD (AT THE SIGN IN) AND MAYBE A FEW EXTRA LATER IN THE NIGHT FOR ANY FOOD/DRINKS/ETC. ANY PREFERENCES? THANKS.. SORRY FOR THE WAIT. BUT WE HAVE OVER 6 WEEKS FOR STILL PLANNING. BUT 100% SURE NOW AND BOOKED FOR AROOSTOOK STATE PARK. THATS RIGHT OFF RT 1 ABOUT A MILE, ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE, JUST BEFORE YOU GET INTO PI, ABOUT 40 MILES OFF THE INTERSTATE.

Are the coordinates on the GC web page correct now? It looks like the event is right next to the cache called "A.S.P.". I am just checking?

Yep, just beyond the otherside of the mountain. Its a area below the mountain. I am sure you just go into the the park and they will tell you what road to drive on to get there and it goes right to the place. :)

Well, while on my geocach vacation in the county A.S.P. was one of the caches i did, and wow what a climb, if i had known prior i may not have climbed, however i must say it is well worth the effort when you get there, i had a great time in the county and return doing 25 caches plus 5 more on the way home.. nice to explore around the county . it had been years, and yes geocaching brought me back to the area..

Thats great it brought you up here. Yes, ASP is a climb, but its also a nice place too! Did you do both peeks?
The event will be on the "other side" of the mountain... there will be no climbing to get here, just drive! :)
