I received this in an email. This may be something we should get involved in.
I'm on the Board of Augusta Trails. We're a non-profit building trails in the Augusta Area. We have a great new trail system called the Bond Brook Recreation Area on 266 acres right in the heart of Augusta. We are having a grand opening celebration on October 20, 2012 and would like to see if any geocaching enthusiasts would like to put on an event that day in conjunction with all the other festivities. It is a great place for geocaching.
For more info about us, go to www.augustatrails.org (http://www.augustatrails.org) or our Facebook page (Augusta Trails).
Thanks! I hope to hear from you,

That's great... Someone in the area should put something on. I would attend!

I'm glad that people out there are thinking good things about geocaching, good enough to seek out someone to put on an event.

Would this be a good opportunity for the site to host the event?

Yes Dave I agree on that. Let Geocaching Maine put it on. Now the question is, who is really going to do the work?

Should I move this thread to the public forums to see if we can get any takers to host an event?

Probably wouldn't hurt, Rick. I'm still fighting with work to get them to get me back on a corporate rotation so I can at least see somewhat of a pattern. Gotta love big box retail.

Moved this thread to the public forums.

Has anyone made contact with them yet? Once a contact has been established we should have no problems organizing the event. We are within the 6 month window to have it published.

I sent them an e mail the other day requesting more info as to times and such, but have not gotten a reply.
"Events are published no more than three months prior to the event date."
"Events may be published up to six months prior if an overnight stay is expected or if the event is designed to attract a regional or international group of cachers."

I don't know the first thing about putting on an event, but I'm more than willing to hike, hide caches and help!

There are 19 caches out there now and room for a few more. I have cached out there and I actually run on the trails there. It is a great spot.

I have the email address from the person that sent me the email if someone wants it to contact them, let me know and I can get it to them.
