What is the story with trackable state geocoins? I'm seeing more and more references for State/European Union/European country geocoins that ARE trackable on gc.com, and they have their own icons.

Anyone know?

Can we get the Maine geocoin listed on gc.com?

Any of you denizens of the gc.com forums know anything about this?

Here's an example (http://9key.com/coins/newmexico.asp).

Sure,I believe if we had wanted the Maine coin trackable on GC.com,they have a flat rate of $1.50 per coin to be trackable. I think the reason we didn't want it trackable was the cost if I am correct. We wanted the coin to be affordable to everyone and the extra cost would have not allowed that. From the majority of posts that I have read on GC.com regarding our coin, most of the people have been very appreciative of the low cost and only a couple of people had expressed any interest in them being trackable. I think the main interest for the coins is more from the collector point of view and not that they can be trackable. Those are just my thoughts. Anyone else have theirs? :)

I have mixed feelings about trackability. Admittedly, I would have bought less coins had the price been higher. We had that debate with the Maryland coins and the powers that be decided to make them trackable. I posted a note on the Maryland Geocaching web site advertising the Maine geocoins and some people bought them because the design was so incredible, but the general feeling seemed to be that they'd rather have trackable coins. A number of people are now using the trackable Maryland geocoins as a personal travel bug to log their cache finds, the coins are good for "icon collectors," and they're fun to follow- for as long as they last. The problem is that I and others haven't had great luck with trackable coins before they quickly disappear into the hands of private collectors.

As someone else had stated on another thread somewhere you can always buy a travel bug and attach it to a coin and track it that way, just a thought....BTW, Happy Halloween all!!

Trackable or not, I sure hope that in Maine, TPB will always be all of us!
