I'm visiting Maine this summer, and I'll be staying for a few days in the Boothbay area.

I've set up my PQs to tell me what caches there are to go for - but you can't beat local knowledge!

Can anyone suggest any "must-do" caches for me?

Actually... Ahem...

A reporter from the Boothbay Register (OK - my neice) did an article on RULOST2? and me which is pretty good.

Check it out! (http://boothbayregister.maine.com/2004-11-25/hide-and-seek.html)

Now, having made that SHAMELESS self-promotion, I have to say that ANY cache in the Boothbay region is a good one. Beautiful area.

In fact, I'd bet the Boothbay Register would LOVE to do an article on a geocacher from Scotland! (Email me and I'll put you in contact...)

Thanks for the suggestion! (I mean the one about "any caches in Boothbay"!)
Looks like I have to make that my goal!!
I've already started my collection of Scottish souvenirs to leave in caches!

Thanks also for your kind welcome to GCMaine. I'll be looking in regularly! :)

There are alot of good caches in Maine and you are headed right at some of our favorites. If you want a guide just let us know. We can be made available at almost any time. We have cached with people from across this country, but never from another country. And of course.... Welcome to Maine Geocaching!! :D :D

Well, one of the Hiker Twins talked to the person who has it a couple of weeks ago, and apparently he is supposed to be putting it in a cache. :)

It hasn't shown up yet, though...

Maybe - if and when it shows up - the guy from Scotland could pick it up and take it back with him - that would be a great story follow-up! :D :D

All of these caches are all in the Boothbay Region and I have done most of them and I liked them all. The Bootbaby Regional Conservation society has a lot of preserves and they are all great places.

This is brilliant. Thanks.

We don't have benchmarks to log here in Scotland, so I'm hoping to grab some of these too.

Meanwhile in the background, Mrs Twigger is muttering something about "visiting some nice towns" and "going shopping".
So what's the local bus service like? :D:D:D:D

Good luck with the public transportation. You would be better off renting a car

Public transportation in Boothbey:

Rent a bike, rent a car, rent a boat, walk, swim, ambulance and police car! The latter two are for the return trip only :)

Sorry - my dodgy sense of humour! (I meant that Mrs T can take the bus while I go caching!)
Don't tell her though! ;)

i don' think boothbay is really large enough to require public transportation... actually i dont think it's big enough to require any transportation... i think the only reason people that live in boothbay own cars is so that they have a way to get out of town

There was an open air shuttle bus that ran every half hour or so last summer. It runs to some of the hotels, loops through town, goes out to the oceanarium and out to the shopping center across from the chamber of commerce. Very handy to park on outskirts of town, then shuttle in.
