Mama can BLOG!

Ah February, that magical month when Mama starts making plans for the summer family fun. I've renewed the KOA Value Kard, booked a second night free weekend and started to put together plans for geocaching events. Why have we started hosting geocaching events? Well, for one, it is fun to host an event but the reality is that it locks us into doing something, to have something to look forward to, to meet new people and make friends with those people that we keep crossing paths with. It lets Chris get out his preschool energy in a positive way. It doesn't involve the TV. We have the gear now so why not use it. Yes, our number of finds is low but look at the adventures we've had! Uncle Dan took us out in his boat in MO for our 6th find. We didn't even know we were claiming MO at the time! We did a family road trip to GeoWoodstock IX in 2011 and managed to complete the AGT, Allegheny GeoTrail, over eight days of our 14 day trip, a total of 60 finds with a four year old in the car. When three 11 coin sets of the AGT Geocoins arrived, that was pretty cool. Dad is still reminding me to activate them so they can be discovered at events. I had to buy reading glasses to see the tracking numbers on the coins! I hope to have the activated coins at GC3AQPR, our Leap Year Grid event. I'll be listing new events as the family calendar pulls itself together. We're doing the Maine DeLorme Challenge, GCW8N6. We've claimed over 25 of the 70 map grids so far with weekend trips. I need to figure out how to do a public bookmark listing of the geocaches to make it official. For more on Reed2ME, you can find us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter @MamaReed2ME
