Thanks where r we. This is going to be very interesting reading.
Yes, thanks WhereRWE for posting the link. I'm looking forward to reading about his trip too.

Way to go, Rick!
(I'm going to start including the link to the journal entry in the daily update so people don't have to keep scrolling through the thread to get to the journal link.)
He's eating better than the rest of us!
I was going to mention that too. Heck he has eaten at the Olive Garden and now Chinese buffet. I want to hike the AT now....LOL
I hear you can order pizza in the 100 mile wilderness :)
Thanks from me as well. Sounds like he's off to a great start.....and he tried to hijack his own thread with a beer story!:)
Tuesday miles: 10.8
Total miles: 42.5
Thanks! Added it to my Google Reader :)
There's a link to the left of ATTroll's logs to an AT Site with a map, too, where you can see where the shelter's are. I clicked on the shelter icons to find the ones he mentioned in today's log, and saw photos of the shelters. It's been fun following along!
Oh my word.... The preparation for the trip that Rick has made is unbelieveable. But in addition to that is the incredible web site that he has made to follow his progress. I realize that I should not be impressed, given his expertise with this geocachingmaine site. But.....what a well organized web page he has for this trip. I'm already addicted and will follow it daily. This is better than any reality show going. Wow....
Wednesdays miles: (Not posted)
Total miles: (Still shown as 42.5)
Great reading!
Thursday's miles: 2.2
Total miles: 44.7
(I guess he did take Wednesday off! LOL!)
I have to agree with you Dan, his commitment to detail is amazing. I went up to Monson to help him with the supper he puts on for the through hikers last fall and it was the same way. Every detail was thought out. I eagerly await each new posting to his journal...makes me wish I was back out on the road riding my bike.
Friday's miles: 10.4
Total miles: 55.10
Map location.
Saturday's miles: 6.2
Total miles: 61.3
Sunday's Miles: None (what is called a "zero day").
Total miles: 61.3
Rick's location today.
None is better than a negative!
Ok, maybe a stupid question but I assume Rick is sending all of this from a phone device and I'm wondering if we can send him messages back and if so how it's done? I'm guessing that there's a lot of members watching this thread daily (as I am) and from time to time I'd like to send him an "atta boy!"
I'll find out if he wants that info put out.
Remember he is mostly at the tops of all those mountains and I'm sure he gets really good reception for his Blackberry. On the other hand he seems to be in a lot of towns lately too sleeping in a comfortable hotel room.....lol
You can sign his guest book, and make comments, by going here, But I don't know if he's reading these posts.
Rick left contact information with at least two of us, and made it quite clear it was not to be shared and we'd better have good reason to use it ourselves. I think he was planning to check in to the web site a few times if he had the chance, so you're best bet is to make any comments right here or via the guest book as 4ccnhikers suggested. I am sure he'll have fun reading when he does get the chance, even if it's after his trip.
Monday's miles: 11.3
Total miles: 72.6
(Note: Only 2088.7 miles to go!)
Thanks Dave. I would not expect Rick to take the time to respond to any personal encouragment any of us might offer but letting him know how many of us are watching his progress each day has to provide positive enforcement for his huge effort. I'm not sure if you can tell how many people visit this thread each day but I'm guessing it's considerable. I have a link to the Mt. Everest daily postings that I also follow the spring of each year.
I bet I'm not the only person wondering if I have what it would take to undertake the AT challenge. It's great he's sharing the experience with all of us!
Go Rick, go!:)
I would have about a dozen Sherpas with me at all times. They'd bring just the basics one needs for a hike like this...plasma tv., satellite dish so I can watch Dancing with the Stars each night, Cuisanart coffee maker ( and a 2500 watt generator to help make good coffee, )and of course the obligatory ice maker to ensure proper preparation of martini's each night.
I think I can do this. I have a call in to Nepal to see what my Sherpa friends feel about skipping Everest this year and hiking in less severe places!:D:D
Sheesh! Guys - I'll be the first one to admit that I'm probably more likely than anyone to hijack a thread.
But this one is about a great effort by our webmaster, who has really done a lot of the Maine geocaching community.
Please - the least we can do to thank Rick is to let this thread alone - as a chronicle of his trip.
Thanks.
I wonder if every thing is alright~{to many pills} boy I hope so.Number Seven
