Geocache and...play!

When you're out geocaching, what else do you like to do?

There was a thread question about areas to rock hound while caching...
Here's a post from Hollora:
...on the same road into the area of mainiac1957's Kan Koozie cache is a fishing pond. It is a pond for KIDS ONLY fishing (15 years and under - with parents supervision of course). This pond is stocked with trout. It is on Conservation Club property ~ open to the public to bring kids to fish.

I know there are ATVers, kayakers, and other hobbiests who enjoy duel adventuring. So tell us what do you like to fit in while caching?

My favorite is camping! Hiram and I camp winter and summer. It allows us to really explore the nature around us, get some geocaches in the area, do some canoeing, swimming, hiking, or 4x4ing. :D

Yes Stef, but you forgot two other times to camp. Fall and spring.:rolleyes: I too like camping with all the cachers and place that highest on my list. Getting to put my kayak in the water to go for a paddle and go for a hike as well. On my trip out west we also combined sightseeing into the mix, and used caching to find some places not on the tours.

Nope, definately meant to leave out spring and fall...those equal mud season and we're not mud season campers yet. We haven't the space or equipment to clean muddy gear...:p:rolleyes:

Yes, that was fall, but not rainy fall. hahaha, how could any of us forget smilin' Bob?

So we've got rock seekers, kayakers, and campers. Other co-caching hobbies out there?

My wife and I biked Lewiston today to gather another 6.

ATVing and caching . . . I love getting a two-fer.

Camping and caching . . . nothing better than hanging around a campfire with friends and good food after a day of caching.

Sightseeing and caching . . . probably my favorite . . . you get to see some great places in parks and other locales that a lot of visitors to the area miss.

I am the mother of a teenager and I using caching as a chance to get one on one time with my teenager. She will now only cache if I promise her something she wants...like a trip to the mall. I'll suffer through an hour of shopping to get two good ours in the woods talking.

Geocaching brings about great opportunities for photography, making friends and creating great memories. We've also found it a great way to learn about a new State/area. Often gives us good historical/educational opportunities as well.

Besides a lot of what has already been mentioned.....Cheryl and I like to yard sale while out looking for a cache. One of us also enjoys stopping at Dunkin Donuts for a hot coffee and a chocolate stick.

I don't visit Dunkin Donuts. What's a chocolate stick?

Chocolate stick: A term used by geo-cachers to note a pile of mud-covered sticks that are in being used to hide a cache. ;):D

I enjoy going with my daughter because it gives us time to talk and be silly. We really enjoyed GCPPEM Strawberry Creek Fairies in Harpswell. Seems every time we talk about geocaching that cache will be mentioned. She made a fairy house and we saw fairies!

Geocaching brings you to places that you never knew were there which opens up the opportunity to visit again. It could be a great swimming hole, fishing spot, camping opportunity etc... Geocaching could introduce you to a new hobby that you weren't interested in before.

Geocaching is also a great way to meet others while on the trail or at an event. I have met my truest friends at events and will have them forever now. Can't beat that can you?

My sister is from Vancouver Island and was surprised when I talked about my friends in geocaching and going camping with them. There is a great friendship among the cachers here and one that, I love.

I like to combine something with my geocaching. It's unusual for me to go out on my own and just cache. I might be looking for a good hike, a bike ride, a social/camping experience with my friends or a kayaking trip. The events are fun. I like the outdoor ones where there is space to move.

The other thing about geocaching is that we use it to help others. Look at all the times we use this site to reach out to an individual or a group.

So folks.... it's not always about the numbers....;)

While caching today ...I realized another caching benefit. I do a lot of my caching alone, so the peace and quiet gives me the time to do some serious soul searching. Well at least the time to think.:)

crazy? i was crazy once. they locked in a room with white walls and worms that tickled my toes till i went crazy. crazy? i was crazy........:eek::eek:
