I'm new to this and I was just curious about the Delorme cache. Are you trying to get a cache from every page in the Delorme except for the exempt pages? It may seem like a dumb question but it wasn't exactly clear when I read about it. thanks.

Yes, it is that simple :D
well... the getting the caches part isn't that simple, but the concept is :D
once you get a cache on every page, and form some type of proof (most people use the bookmark lists on gc.com) and submit it to the cache owner, then you get the sublime privilege of getting the coords to the final cache
Each grid? That's a lot more than each page right? Wow--I've got a long way to go then.:o
Thanks--I'm going to work on a page or two this weekend!
A few months back I thought that was never any way I would get near to completing the DeLorme Challenge since I figured that even though I had been geocaching for a couple of years that I didn't travel that far.
It wasn't until Hiram took a list of my found caches and plugged them into a map that he came up with that I realized that in the course of geocaching here and there on various camping trips, business trips, day trips, etc. that I had actually done a lot more caches in a lot more places that I had realized. Of course it helps that a) I had been actively geocaching for some time, b) I live in an area of the state that is relatively central to the rest of the State and c) well . . . see A.
I suspect that few folks set out to just do the DeLorme Challenge . . . rather most have done a bunch of the maps and then at some point figure they might as well do a few more to wrap up this Challenge and be one of the proud, the few, the Marines . . . I mean . . . the Geocachers. :D In all seriousness, this is a fun cache to do . . . it just takes a lot of time and gas money to get to some of them. My personal advice . . . do some local caches near you, expand outwards with some day trips and nab a few more on a camping trip . . . in time you too will soon come to the realization one day that you have found a lot more maps than you might have realized.
With today's gas prices I wonder how much it would cost to do what we did when this thing was published?
Gob-ler any gas company would be proud of you - I just finished last year and even then it was nice to car pool with another cacher to enjoy the journey.
Amen and that is without paying road fees! to the nice folks who welcome you with open arms.........
Ribs and Special Sauce? I never found those when I was up there!
But then again it may have been the middle of the night!
And Special Sauce?!?
Sounds like a baling can and towel were in order for that weekend too! Where did he put that tent?
I could pay for this one LOL!
I'm not goal oriented or a numbers person, but I'm wondering where you find out about the different challenges like delorme, 2001, 5 terrain, and others that have been mentioned here in the past. Also is there a list of series like Rose, Dalmations, Piano Key?
If you have GSAK, you can get PQs of every available cache in the state and look them over by most any criteria. If you're real obsessed like me, you can even keep a database of every archived cache as well. ;)
Also, some people have boookmark lists of caches. For example, here is a bookmark list a left coast cacher keeps which is filled with challenge type caches all over the U.S.

I don't think the Rose gals kept any stats on those who completed them all. Some of them, for various reasons, have now been archived.
You might try a search by keyword "Maine Rose" on GC.com to get the active ones.

Thanks for the list BRDad. Interesting. I would have had 31, but the one I don't have was missing in action the day I went and looked for it. Oh well, such is life.
It's one reason to get to caches soon after they are published. You wait you sometimes miss out.
Interesting statistics. Thanks BRDad. The goal was for for the 3 of us to put out a dozen roses........that would be 36 caches. I fairly sure that didn't happened (for a bunch of reasons). The total number of published Rose caches needs to be determined.
Yes, some of them ended up being disabled (temporary) and some got archived. The disabled, I would hope got put back up soon and the archived are of course, gone. I am not sure as I write the number of active Rose caches today.
It is appreciated all who visited the sites and enjoyed them. The story of the caches is in the cache page but if anyone would like to know more - please feel free to PM any of us - "The Rose Girls" - becket, Cache Maine or hollora.
Again - thanks BRDad for the stats............should we develop a certificate?
It's hard to pass up a challenge to get stats for caches!
As for the Roses, there are 27 active.
I don't think I have one of the Maine Rose series.... That's sad. Do I see a road trip on my bike? Maybe... I actually did do a quiery on it and mapped it out.
How about 4000 miles plus and still counting? Coming from Central Mass, this has to be the hardest of the New England challenges.
I can't find this challenge. Can someone list the waypoint name?
Thanks
Try this
Maine's DeLorme Challenge
I just did the Delorme Challange because it was on my 10-Mile List.
I think it will take a little more than 10 miles to do the Delorme Challenge...:D
