Second Annual JD Foundation Yard Sale

Cheryl and I would like to first thank all of you who have already donated items or time to our past yard sale and other fundraisers. This years sale will be May 28-31 at our home in Abbot and is shaping up to be bigger and better then last years, if that is possible. Our local snowmobile club will be serving food all four days and sharing any profits with us. Butterfields will once again be donating their homemade ice cream for us to sell. We will once again have camping and a fire going each night for anyone wanting to come hang out with us.

So mark those dates on your calender, stop by for some great bargains, good food, or just some socializing or if so inclined help us sell some of these great buys. Also check out all those hiding places you may have store things you no longer have any use for, give me a call or shoot me a email and I can make arrangements to come by and pick things up.

So.... where in Abbot is this taking place?

At the cross roads right on the main route through town and you Won't miss it - quaranteed! LOL! On both sides of the road last year........

Maybe this year block the road and set up a toll.

Once again we'll be having a benefit yard sale of our own that wekend, so we will not be there. :(

I have 2 binders and a folder full of NASCAR trading Cards, some back from 1993.
If you think they can draw a buck or two, your welcome to them. There is a couple hundred in there. I also have a small display case that can go. Maybe a few other things.
I don't have a car though, so if someone wants to pick them up, you can sell them.
Just let me know who and when.

Hmmm . . . thinking of maybe coming up . . . it will mean leaving Camp Jakeawana for a night or two . . . but I can always open it up on Sunday into Monday for any campers who might happen to have a cachingname that rhymes with "Buy Rum". ;) :)

Besides, I haven't kayaked for a very long time . . . and I do like birds as "Buy Rum" can attest since I was able to convince him to help me move the bird feeder on one of his stays at Camp Jakeawana.

We are thinking of coming up Friday. Kayaking would be fun. Company coming Saturday. Busy summer!

Took my mother on a drive today and went to this event....what fun. I saw Maine Cacher, Hollera, and others but please forgive me because I am not sure just who I got to meet....(iam bad remembering names) But got some good bargins and raffle chances too. Thanks for bringing this to my attention ...We had a super day with this as our highlight!

:)We decided to go last minute. Thanks to being early risers we arrived at 8:30 am. Holy crap!! This is not your 5 minute walk through sale. We were there nearly an hour and not sure we saw it all. I, personally walked through three times. Bought Wife a bunch of puzzles, and I got hit up by some very persuasive raffle ticket sales girls and stand a fair chance at some nice looking quilts and baskets. Also, never have won a 50/50 raffle but got into that as well. Bought an awsome large book of kennebec Journal papers dated 1929 ( I'm a sucker for that stuff) sure to be hours of great reading. Sorry we didn't meet any fellow cachers, but we are too anti-social to attend any events yet so we don't know many faces, I guess we will have to do something about that. Also, thanks to the young gentleman that we paid for the puzzles (that said he was from Portland) mentioned a big sale in Bingham. Anyway, Thanks for a great time. :):):)

I was up there helping out since Friday afternoon. Sales seemed to be good. Hopefully after it's all tallied up the Foundation made lots of money to spread the word about suicide, and help save some lives.

Wow - farmer and wife and "G" - I didn't realize you folks were cachers - but I believe I sold you that "large book". Sure do remember the twinkle of happiness in your eye when you saw it. Your write up in this thread is very correct - the yard was more than filled with many treasures.

We were sitting around the camp fire last night trying to tally up all the cachers who came to support this event in one way or another. There was a long list and a few we missed I am sure.

From donations, to customers, and then workers - I know The JD Foundation, founded by our own Vicbiker and Chercacher, really appreciates the support. I would suspect we can already pencil in - same holiday weekend, same location, same endeavor. They already have started receiving donations for next year - they started coming in today!

Sorry hollora for not making ourselves better known but we did not realize how many cachers were helping out. Thought if we mentioned caching few would know what we were talking about. Guess we need to come out of our shells and meet more people. Not far into the book but it is great. Hope the sale did really well and we are sure to be there next year.

I was there shopping first thing on Friday morning. Scored some stuff for our new kitties - scratching posts, toys, dishes etc. Yippee! Also got a few other things, toys etc. I was there for an hour and a half and went around about 3 times LOL!

I did meet Hollora and Chercacher, and JustPJ66 though I'm not sure I made my name known. Was planning to meet brdad and Mainiac1957 - but I'm a bit on the shy side so I didn't introduce myself - and I actually didn't know who was who anyway.

We got caught up in all the excitement of the goodies there and missed about everyone else as well. It sure was busy, and great prices, and a great cause.

Enjoy the book and keep reading on GCM for information for next year. I suspect there may be some new twists and a bit more formal information.

HehHeh . . . as a recent born-again convert to geocaching events (I used to be a "I don't do events" heathen) I can tell you that events are rather pain-less . . . the ones I've been at have all been low-key and if you're a wallflower it's no big deal . . . in some ways it's really nice to be able to put faces to the names . . . even if I don't remember who the person was the next time I see them.;):D

I have to say I really enjoyed going up to Vic's and Cheryls -- it was the ideal combination of comraderie with old and new friends, camping, caching, kayaking and volunteering to help a good cause . . . something I definitely would do again . . . the only thing I would do different is neuter and muzzle the Chihuahua.

Well . . . after not showering for a day and not shaving for a couple of days, camping, kayaking and caching . . . it was a bit of a shock to take a look at myself in the mirror when I got home . . . hair was all standing on end and I was a bit grubby.

Jake...Cheryl will hold the little bugger while you do it. 'cause in all fairness Chris the dogs owner said he'd like to castrate the guy who snored all night in the tent next to his.

Chercacher and I would like to thank all the geocachers who helped to make this weekend such a huge success. At last count we were nearing thirty cachers who either volunteered time working on the sale, helped to set it all up, or showed up to buy some treasure, a raffle ticket, 50/50 ticket, or simply to support our cause. We appreciate you all. Next year with all of your help it will be a bigger and better run sale. A very special thanks to our own Lacy who sold all those 50/50 tickets all weekend long for a grand total of $1320.00...as already said we are already accepting donations for next years sale... get in touch with me for info or to schedule a pickup. I still haven't got the phone call telling me I won the 50/50 though Vic . . . I have big plans for those winnings . . . gonna get me one of those fancy Garmin Oregons you know. ;):D

In all seriousness, it really was a lot of fun: caching, volunteeering for a good cause, meeting up with old friends, making new friends, kayaking, watching Chihuahua Porn, eating good food and camping . . . definitely hope to do this again next year.
