Whoa, my world is spinning right now.
Holy Crap!! Notice how many didn't clip in while hiking the walkways!?
better than the bush caches in florida full of biting ants
OMG!!!:eek::eek::eek: I take it that that path is at last a five star difficulty. ;)
I noticed about half way through watching the video that I was leaning towards the wall of the path. All I wanted to do was hug the side of the cliff to be safe(r).
Don't know if the filmer provided any background info, because I had to watch it on mute since Hiram is still sleeping:p. So I went to Wikipedia, it's quick! and I have to leave for work, but here's the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Camino_del_Rey
It also states that the walkway is so dangerous now that the government closed it, and you have to sneak in to walk it. :( But it was beautiful from up there!
I've seen this video linked from other sites. Apparently several people have fallen through to their deaths over the past 10 years. Even though the govt. has closed it, it's a popular access trail for rock climbers.
There are caches in this area. This cache is at a bridge crossing Camino del Rey. A search for nearby caches will show a few others in the area. Oddly enough, the highest terrain rating is a 3. There is not a 5 terrain cache within 50 miles.
Garganta Del Chorro (GC12DKC) by Davy boy (2/2.5)
As far as this area being 5 terrain, it could only be considered that if you needed to use special equipment, like the safety line used in the video. I don't think that would be necessary if the walkway was in it's original shape. You could also argue that a 5 terrain can mean "otherwise extremely difficult", but it's not so much of a difficult climb, just a dangerous one. But it's certainly deserving of a 4 or 4.5 even with everything being in good repair!
