Sheesh! I'd love to do this again! It was 1979... A great year and a great experience.

    Default Octoberfest

I could tell a lot of stories about being in Munich for my 21st birthday. Some of them involve what is affectionately called " Beer Court." Went twice. I was hanging with the wrong crowd and a guy from Australia that thought it would be fun to drive the Strassenbahn.

The beer is wundershoen, the ladies are schoen and fines were nicht zu teuer!

I must read like an open book, but you''re right! And sheesh, how can those lovely ladies bring 6 liters of beer in each hand and never spill a drop? I can still hear the oom-pah-band playing eine, zwie prosit!

I have a couple of those glass Octoberfest mugs, so I just went to the kitchen to make a test. I filled a mug with water to the "beer line" and weighed it: just a little short of 5 pounds.

Sheesh! With 6 mugs in each hand, those girls are lugging 50-60 pounds!

    Default Solon Hotel

Anyone who has ever heard of The Solon Hotel knows that it has a reputation of being a wild place. The following story is supposed to be true.

A Somerset County Sheriff's deputy was parked a short way from the Solon Hotel late one evening, expecting the usual drunks to try and drive home. He observed one young man, obviously loaded, stagger down the hotel steps and approach a car. The drunk fumbled with his car keys, dropping them a couple of times, but eventually getting the car unlocked and getting into the car. The guy managed to start the car and immediately stalled it. He again started it, jerked forward, changed gears and jerked backwards, changed gears and jerked forwards. The deputy approached and asked the man if he'd been drinking. "Sure have", said the man. "Are you trying to drive home?", asked the deputy.

"No" said the man, "I'm the designated decoy".

Just smile it won't crack your face

friends -- if they're okay, then it's you.

Sheesh! If you're a beer aficionado, Massachusetts is the place to be. We went into a small, nondescript liquor store this afternoon, and they had HUNDREDS of beer varieties.

I settled for a mini-keg of HofBrau - one of the great beers of Munich.

    Gonna be a good weekend!

    (If the rain stops...)
