Default Maine Stats Etc... Help for Class

Hi. I have to teach a small class of kids and adults about geocaching soon. I am keeping it very basic, but there are a couple of things I want to show/mention that I can't remember WHERE I saw the information.

I see that there are over 2000 caches in Maine, but where is there a place that shows them on a map all at once. ALso, is there a place that shows the United States/world from a distance with caches marked with dots or something? I feel like I remember seeing this somewhere. Also, does anyone know where to how to find out how many caches there are in the world right now?

Thanks for your help ahead of time!

I think the map you are looking for is here. Not sure how often Brdad updates it but it is quite recent. http://www.geocachingmaine.org/index...ge=maine_stats

Along with a lot of other stats as well.

As far as how many active caches there are in the world right now, go here: http://www.geocaching.com/

About 3/4's of the waydown you will find that info.

I remember seeing a world map at one time with all the caches but can't remember where I saw that either. Maybe someone will pipe in with that info. Hope that is of some help though.

Ok I found one source, Buxley's where he has caches for just about every country that you can find. Here is the link for that. It doesn't look like it is updated very often though.

Thanks, Haffy, for your quick reply. That is just the information I was looking for! I see that gc.com page all the time and completely spaced out that it has some of what I was looking for.- Jen

I update the stats page when I get a few extra minutes. The map shows all caches ever published in Maine, including archived ones. I doubt it'd matter for class use, but if you wanted one of just the active caches I could whip that up for you pretty quick.

    Buxley's Geocaching Waypoint
can give you a similar map of the world or U.S., but it does not include anywhere near all the caches.
