That is a neat piece of Maine Geocaching Trivia - are you keeping track of this stuff. It would make a fun booklet.

Does Quietbert still cache? Has he ever been to events? Where does he live? Could we get him to attend the I'm Sitting Event? That would be so cool!

I have not seen a log by him in a while. He lives in the Belfast area. It would be cool to get him to an event. He has hidden 10 caches, 7 of which are still active. I don't know him that much, other than a few emails we shared a while back. I got an email from him that pretty much said; "You seem to like my caches, you have a few of them listed on your web pages as Maine's best... And you are placing your sig CDs in harder and harder caches and I am getting older - I think you should give me one of the CDs"!

How could I not say no? I was hoping to deliver it personally, but I was busy at the time, so I mailed it to him.

We have a great group here in this state, of all types and backgrounds...

That's for sure! Geocaching is a melting pot of people with many likes, dislikes, opinions and a huge diversity of creativity!

Maybe we should pick an event for one of the States first cachers and try to invite him to come....with an offer to pick him up and take him home if that would encourage him to attend.

We3Beans and I went skippin' across a frozen pond somewhere in search of one of his caches...and we met him and his mate on the way back. Good thing as we had DNF'ed the cache! All four of us went back and we finally found it laying in the snow...we had a great visit with him. He is a treasure...for sure! I think it was North Island Visit....

    Default I like that idea

We could have some fun with that and recognize some oldies but goldies (caches and people).

Since I've been looking for my "Celebrate 2007 - ___________________" event on January 27th, we could go for "and the Past." (or something to that affect).

I can output a list of every cacher (777 of them as of my latest PQ set) who has placed a cache in Maine, sorted by their Owner ID number, which would be the order they joined. The person who most of us would know as our oldest (In caching years) cache hider - GPSfun! The oldest popular Mainer I see on the list - Katadin Goddess. Tat, Noreasta, Quietbert, and then myself are on the list a little further down, in that order.

BobHogan is on that list as the third oldest (caching years) person to hide a cache in Maine. Unfortunately, he is no longer with us. Many may not recognize the name, but he hid the original cache at the Joshua Chamberlain statue in Brewer, as well as a cache in Acadia NP, which had to be removed. He was an active cacher in his home state of Mass., and started a New England Geocaching club. I got a chance to meet him and his wife on one of their trips up here, and he was FTF on Old470 on his way home. He was an interesting person.

We're getting a bit off topic here. Can I hiijak my own thread? We'll just change the title to "Thanks for the memories"

I like it! On all accounts, the thread and the event. You could send some of the older (not necessarily by age of course) ones special email invitations.

I think that is a great idea to honor our original cachers and try to get them to an event. Wish I was there to help out.

Quietbert e-mailed me a couple of times recently. I looked up his stats and he found a cache in September so he's still active. An event to meet the "oldest" i.e. in caching years cachers would be fun but I would suggest a season in Maine when the traveling is good, like our one month of summer maybe?
