A new version of GSAK has been available for several weeks now. Today I finally upgraded. The newer version is a FREE upgrade if you have version 7.0

After playing with it I have found the most useful new tool is the addition of Google maps. Once you have the map you can choose from streets or topo, even Canadian topo is available. There is also a new advanced print method.

Has anyone else upgraded and have you found anything else worth mentioning?

They did add a few small improvements to the form designer for those that make macros. Makes placing controls and buttons quite a bit easier. They also added some more functions and capabilities to the macro language itself.

It also has the ability to save the images that appear on cache pages, which could be helpful for some puzzle caches, but I doubt those images forward though cachemate, so it seems the most worth there are those who have laptops and are out in the field without an internet connection. I haven't tried this feature yet so I am not sure just how useful it is for me.

Yeah, it was a matter of necessity as Watcher has not been updated. Originally I was upset because it crashed often on my old '98 system and got to the point where it didn't even work. I didn't get a lot of help from the GSAK crew because I didn't pay for it, and figured why should I if it wasn't working for me. Plus, I hated the GUI or GSAK. I managed to get around the GUI, and it works flawlessly on my XP computer.

Sometimes you have to let go of the old and move on.

I do like the macros, I even submitted my own macro which copies lists of caches to the clipboard - The way I often post them here, like:

Northern Maine Woods Virtual Tour #6 (GC4E7D) by AA1YB & N1NJB (3.5/2.5)
Newbert Pond Cache (GCVYJZ) by kizzybean (2/3)
Ocean Cache (GCYBJ8) by Diesel10 (2/2)
the chosen one (GC144EH) by JIMMYEASTMAN1 (3.5/3.5)

By the way, that list is the Maine caches that are large and have been archived.

Macros can make macros do things the basic GSAK cannot. You could essentially make a macro that would get the PQs from your email, add them to GSAK, output to cachemate and your GPS at the click of one button.

Maybe tomorrow I'll post how to add my macro to GSAK and use it to get you started.

I have a macro that does just that. It moves grabs my pocket queries from my alternate email account (only used for Pocket Queries), downloads them into GSAK into the correct database, filters the inactive, disabled, and archived stuff and then exits GSAK with the push of one button.

I'll share it if someone wants it as well as the screen shots of the setup within GSAK.

I would like to try it Dick. I use one to generate my stats to go on my profile page on GC. It works great. Look at my profile and see how complete it is.
