I. Naming the Newsletter: Name Chosen
-----------------------------------------------------------
--After a whirlwind of voting and campaigning, a name for the newsletter has been decided. “Geocaching Maine Newsletter” came out on top. Thank you everyone for your suggestions and votes!
-----------------------------------------------------------
II. Geocaching Group Chats
-----------------------------------------------------------
--There are many ways to hold onto signal in the Geocaching Maine Community. The Geocaching Maine website and forums are comprehensive and interactive, this newsletter is brief and informative; and finally, there are the Geocaching Group Chats.
----Geocaching Group Chats occur twice a week. Mondays are for newbie cachers, but all are welcome. Wednesdays are also scheduled chat nights. Chats begin at 8:00 PM on both Mondays and Wednesdays. Each night a new topic is chosen for the chats, but discussion rarely sticks to one topic. Conversations range from GPS units to caching adventures to upcoming events to cache related milestones to other hobbies the chatters have in common.
----For most, it is possible to link to the chat room using the links on the home page of www.geocachingmaine.org. For others it is easier to connect using either Trillian or mIRC programs. The links below should help in setting up these programs. brdad is the Advisory Board member who most often moderates the chats, and he can help if you have trouble; just send him a Personal Message.

IV. Maine Geocaching News
-----------------------------------------------------------
1. MainePublisher - A New Geocache Reviewer for Maine: http://www.geocachingmaine.org/forum...ead.php?t=2893
---- Maine Geocache Reviewer gpsfun is transitioning from his position. gpsfun has chosen a replacement, and Groundspeak has accepted him: MainePublisher is better known to Maine Geocachers as TAT. You can welcome TAT and say farewell to gpsfun at the forum link above.
----Side Bar: What is a Geocache Reviewer?
------When geocaches are hidden by geocachers and before they are found by other geocachers, they must be published. Part of the publishing process is a review by geocaching.com, but do you ever wonder who does the reviewing? Geocaching.com has volunteer geocache reviewers who read geocache descriptions and apply geocaching rules to determine whether geocaches are publishable. Geocache Reviewers help make geocaching a consistently fun and easy sport!
------Keystone of geocaching.com explains, volunteer cache reviewers are recruited when there’s a need in a local area. Geocaching.com considers experience level, reputation within the local geocaching community, involvement with any local geocaching organizations, demonstrated ability to work with land managers, communications skills, and knowledge of the geocache listing guidelines.
2. “Geocachers, land trust hunt treasure”
Posted: January 18,2008 http://www.sunjournal.com/story/2479...hunt_treasure/
“The woods and riverfront of Canton have been a local playground for generations.”
