Every spring we enjoy watching the various bird cam sites on the web. What bird cams do you watch? The birds of prey are usually the first to lay their eggs and hatch.

Here are the ones we keep an eye on:

Of course we monitor the Maine eagle cam hosted by BRI. They have not laid any eggs yet but are busy patching up their nest.

Cornell Lab also hosts several bird cams. We enjoy watching the barn owls one pair from TX have already hatched at least 5 eggs out of a clutch of 8!! The CA pair have laid 6 eggs so far and are just starting incubating them. They also have a web cam on a Wood duck who is sitting on 20 eggs!!

We also watch a bird cam on a Peregrine falcon pair in a nesting box on top of the Kodak building in Rochester NY. There is only one egg there right now, which they just started incubating.

Our bird of prey story was a few days ago. A fat juicy squirrel was enjoying a feast on the deceiver baffle of our bird feeder. This is right outside our picture window (much nicer than TV for viewing). I saw a huge shadow swooping through the air from the direction neighbors house - and recognized it was some sort of a big hawk - headed towards dinner.

About the time I realized the squirrel was about to become a feast - the squirrel did too - he/she did a diversionary leap into the air in one direction and fortunately the hawk diverted from collision course with the window, if it overshot the feeder, and went in the other direction.

Nature has so much to share when we just watch. We will enjoy those cams - thanks again.

We live in the middle of a woods and Marsh area.
We have all the usuall Birds feeding here all winter on our seed ,and breeding here as well. Chicadees, Nuthatch, Purple Finch, Doves, Downy/ Hairy Woodpeckers, Turkeys, Crows, Ravens. Come Spring and summer The Partridge, Owls and Pialeted Woodpeckers Chase each other around.
A big treat this last summer was the Cuttail Hawks that raised two little ones for us to see. BubbaBass was the first to notice the shaky nest they built and watched them on a daily basis. When the little ones poked there heads out, he was so thrilled you'd think he was the dad!! He would catch mice in his shop and place them on the big rocks in our yard and watch the parents come and take the feast to the nest.
We watched them grow and watch the parent birds calling to them to fly as they got bigger. Then, just as fast as they showed up, They were gone. Beautiful. WE hope they come back this year to nest again!
