For some caches that are larger than micros and still quite challenging (in fact some would say challenging enough to push you over the edge challenging) check out Brdad's Ol' 470 and Battleship caches in the Bangor area.

You know I've heard that there may be a cache or two up that way.

I have seen a few very wet caches because of this. I have one LARGE container that is a LARGE hard plastic 25MM Ammo/mortar round container for my MOOSE COUNTRY CACHE. It seals like a regular ammo can. If more of these were available I think more large caches might pop up. But unless I could find a good large container I would stick to the 50. cal cans as they can hold a good amount.
This is the first I've heard of plastic ammo cans . . . where did you pick this up EH and what was the cost?

I try to do that in January. There weren't too many kids there this year.... I'd love to have a gang of them show up... well, a controled gang. ATroll also runs a fun one for families in the Slipping into Summer event.

The Pirate Quest has had a coin discovery component which the kids (supervised - as the little ones need help) seemed to all enjoy. Then you can go home, teach them and help them log the coins they discovered. In addition the auction has always used "fake" money to purchase stuff. Many of the things to purchase were Kid oriented.

The event drew a number of cachers in 2007 and more in 2008. Not sure if there is a larger venue which would be affordable to rent. We had over 100 this year and I doubt the facility would accomodate the activities and a lot more folks. Due to the crowd, it is essential little ones be well supervised. (Just like on the trail.)

Each event is different, but, I think most hosts/hostesses try to plan for children. I know Mainiac1957's Last Cache Bashe the last 2 years has had a scavenger hunt or hunt for "all Kids". My Apres event last year - had nothing Kid specific - it was an event for folks to camp in the area without a campground fee - kick back and talk caching after Mainiac1957's event. I did have some outdoor games older kids could use and EMSDanel organized an Escorted excursion from the Apres event for families to visit his GeoZoo (complete with admission tickets) - and timing to include doing the night cache.

Read the event descriptions and when in doubt - PM the host/hostess to determine if their event includes activities for the kids.

Of course you can. But only for fake gas.

It was something that was confiscated and "disposed of" after it was done being evidence. (You can just imagine what was in it!). Anyway, I have never seen one before or since. I would imagine they would not be cheap. They are made of a hardened plastic, that I would dare say can take a beating. It dosent quite hold what a 5 gallon bucket will, but its close. They held 25MM shells of some sort, mortar, or gun I imagine.

Where the hell is that thing?
