    Default Greetings all

Greetings all. I guess I am KINDA new to the site. Been lurking for a bit but finally decided to post. Anyways we (me, my wife, and son) have been caching for a few months. We are from the Portland area though my wife and her family are from the Unity family. So far we have done caching in the Portland area and recently in the Rangeley area. I have some I want to hit in the Unity area as well.

We don't have any hides yet but I have several spots in mind. Also we have never been to any events but that is something on the horizon as well to.

Welcome to the addiction and to the site!

I think we have a Unity Geocaching Ambassador on site, don't we?

As the Official Unity Area Geocaching Ambassador Dictator-For-Life and Official Unity House of Pizza Representative . . . welcome to Geocachingmaine.org . . . and geocaching in general.

I think most of us started out lurking here, reading threads until finally we just had to say "hi" or we had a burning geocaching question that needed answering (I think Hiram's first question was something along the lines of "Will a 50-foot drop into a raging river damage my Garmin?" whereas my first question was "If my Magellan GPSr shows the cache to be off the side of a 175-foot sheer drop-off should I really follow the compass?" )

Now the truly great thing about the caches in the Unity Area is that the next time your wife drags you up to meet the in-laws you can discreetly slip out with the expressed purpose of "gassing up the car", "picking up a gallon of ice cream" or any one of 101 other excuses that I have used . . . and then you can grab a cache or two.

I'm still trying to convince Evil Homer that he can do the same when he visits his in-laws in Unity . . . incidentally what's up with all these geocachers with in-laws in Unity . . . and more importantly am I related to these folks somehow?

You'd never know it if you were related cuz you never attend the family reunions

    This statement is more true than you would think . . . as I have said many a time . . . I don't do events . . . and this means I haven't gone to a family reunion since 1994.

Thank you folks for the warm welcome! I know the name Firefighterjake because I have been eyeing some of your hides wanting to take some of the in-laws so they can learn caching.

So if I might be so bold . . . what's your wife's maiden name and did she graduate from Mt. Moo . . . I mean Mt. View. Seeing as I grew up in Unity there's a pretty good chance I may know the family or they might know me. If you don't want to publish this feel free to send me a PM.

Some hides I might recommend over others by the way for folks who are just starting out.

Caches I might avoid for the newbie would include my Multi in a Mile . . . and a Half (due to the walk and challenge), FFJake's Double Trouble (due to the challenge, walk and fact you will drive several miles from the first stage to the second stage), Out Behind the School (due to the fact that this cache tends to be a bit challenging) and Brier's Beach (once again due to the challenge factor.)

Some of my "easier" caches would include Clifford Commons, Future Home, Win or Lose (in Thorndike) and Out of the Ashes.
