The good thing about moving to Bangor City Forest is it's close enough you can send the wife to town for dinner.

Hey, doesn't that moose need to go to the first window to pay?
Oscilating between remarkable brillance and sheer stupidity with amazing regularity.

In Maine anywhere you go you should be aware of the wildlife around you. A moose in the city forest is definilty of concern but I would be more worried about the random dogs that folks cut loose and just allow to run. I was chased by a black bear behind Hannaford in Old Town about 15 years ago.
I heard rumor that there was a really cool owl siting there yesterday.
yeah, the last time i was in the BCF I was definitely more worried about the dogs running loose than I was any moose or bear (given the fact that all normal bear should still be asleep about now, and moose should be out of their, umm... natural phase by now...) I came across about 6 different people that had dogs running loose, I wasn't too concerned because the demeanor of the dogs were all "im a happy puppy" mood, there was 1 that we crossed paths with that probably would've had a bad day if they were'nt on a leash, (thankfully it was and we stayed on the other side of the trail...) i don't care if the owner says they're a good dog or not, when i see teeth in an unhappy dog...
and yeah, that owl sighting was pretty cool, it was huge, we left it alone in hopes that it would carry off some of the dogs that were'nt on leashes....
Once the game is over, the king and the pawn go back in the same box.
Most of you know I am a dog lover at heart. Have to say my late summer, fall experiences with dogs on Bangor city trails and forest were not the greatest. In fact, to me who is a dog lover, they were a great turn off.
It is through these experiences, where I have left my dogs home, and had to experience dogs belonging to the populus I understand tighter and tighter regulations upon dogs on public lands. It is not everyone - but the few who abuse make it miserable for those who would make it nice.
Regretfully, Bangor's open dog policy on public trails and lands has lacked significant enough education to make an impact upon how folks and their dogs being "trail friendly". Regretfully, but that is how I see it.
In our Group we have the TMP's with Moxie and the PJP's with their new dog - along with trail friendly and OBEDIENT or leashed others. It is sad the public reflects poorly on their dog handling.
I for one just hate, now, due to my experience on Bangor trails, to encounter a loose dog on any trail.
My dog experiences in BCF so far have been positive. My 3 year old loves "DOGGIES!" and gets very excited when she sees them. I however am not a big dog person and get a bit nervous when a 100lb dog comes running at me. I dont mind dogs, but I've been bitten too many times. I do get defensive when I have my girl with me and she starts towards a strange dog, and it would not be good for the dog that bites her, so I try to use as much caution as I can when I have her with me and meet people with dogs. The worst that has happened to me on the BCF trails is getting jumped on and getting my pants dirty by a couple of excited labs. no biggie!
Where the hell is that thing?
