Default Placing caches in Maine State Parks

I've not placed a cache before, and I'd like to place one at a campground near home that is run by Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands. I couldn't find any policies or statements about geocaching on their website. Has anyone had difficulty placing caches on their turf? Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

If you can't find any information giving blanket permission to hide a cache, the best thing you could do is ask for permission.

I've never placed on in a park, but I've talked to park attendants about caches that we looked for that were located in their parks.

The impression I got was that they want you to ask permission, but usually will let you place a cache. This was 2-3 years ago, though, so maybe policies have changed. Like Brdad said - ask.

Good info, thanks. I talked to the woman behind the desk at the campground, and she was going to have someone from the Rec Council (who immediately oversee the campground) give me a call. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed.

Fort Knox State Park the Park Ranger must grant permission. I would suspect most of them are the same.

Are there caches in State Parks where permission was not granted or ever obtained? I suspect quite probably.

Should new caches placed - permission be obtained? Absolutely.

You have made your first contact. Wishing you the best for a successful result and a hospitable reception. Job well done with your approach.

If it's not approved don't be discouraged. Just ask why and go from there.
