As I said in an earlier post, I have this one. Like you, my primary focus was for size and the ability to work while on an airplane. That said, it does everything I need it to do like any other PC. I do use several external drives that have no problem with the power levels provided by the USB ports. If it's Windows OS, why wouldn't it boot from an external source utililizing DOS? I cannot answer your question other than to say, I've had no problems. Again....only drawback is keyboard size. My advice.....get the better battery for extended use, it is well worth it. And.....a bonus for you.....you have the background and knowledge to "tweak" this thing to have it perform as you wish. What else could you want?
Oh, and it's red. That seals the deal!
Everyone has the right to be an idiot at times. Just don't abuse the privilege.
This was about the best price I could get on a notebook.

It still takes me a while to use it though since it takes time writing down all those coords. On the flip side, it works pretty much all the time whether it's been charged or not.

Sure, but netbook by definition is not meant to be your primary computer. So size, weight, long battery life is preferred over power or capacity. Google Chrome OS will run on netbooks without hard drive at all. For everything else I have powerful desktop computer with 6TB of storage and it's getting full
