Default Getting married in Portland -- looking for a cache to visit

    Hello,

We're heading up to the Boothbay Harbor area for vacation next week. First stop (after a pint at Grittys and/or Deweys) will be the Portland city hall to get married!

We'd like to visit a cache to commemorate the occasion. Can you recommend a cache in or around the Portland area? Something on the ocean would be great, but is not mandatory. Something with at least a small cache container as we plan to drop a TB to celebrate the event. Anything within an hour drive from Portland would work. It doesn't have to be in the direction of Boothbay Harbor as we're staying in Portland the first night then heading up to Boothbay Harbor the next day.

    Thanks in advance!

    Default Portland Area Cache

    Congratulations Tony and Jane !!!

Wish you the best. Fort William's Cache at Portland Head Light might be a good choice. It is the location of Maine's first geocache and pretty easy to get to. It is in Cape Elizabeth. Very romantic with the lighthouse and ocean view. No matter which cache you choose enjoy your special day.

    Thumbs up

Hey Congrats to you guys.Wow a geocaching couple being united once again. Seems like that is happening a lot these days. Did you guys happen to meet through caching or just happen to love caching together? Anyway there are a lot of really nice caches in the Portland area and I second the idea of the Portland headlight cache, it is truely a beautiful lighhouse. The cache itself is a little bit aways from the Light itself but that is because of the tremendous amount of muggles that are in the area but you should not have a hard time finding it.Good luck and may you have many years together caching. There are also some really beautiful caches in the Boothbay Harbor area also if you plan on doing any caching. Check out the Boothbay Harbor land trusts, they have some really beautiful preserves in the area with caches galore, right on the ocean. Have a great time.

Default Here's to the new couple!!!

Congratulations! Including caching in the honeymoon plans is essential! I also agree with YOP and Haffy6 about the Fort Williams Park cache. The area is really nice and you guys would really enjoy it. However, there are numerous other caches in the area that you shouldn't miss! Here's just a few of my favorites!

Congratulations! You've picked a great area to come to for a honeymoon. I echo BeachCombers's recommendations and add "We don't need no education" GC2A46 which is a walk around Macworth Island, home of Maine's School for the Deaf. You walk the shoreline the whole way around with a granite pier half way to sit and enjoy full ocean/island views. Clever hide on the cache but the muggles are thick as mosquitos so be careful. Parking is limited at the island end of the causeway but worth seeing if it is available or not. Also recommend "Libery Ships at Bug Light" GC512E. Great harbor views but muggles abound there also.

Wow! Thanks for all of the kind words and all of the great cache suggestions. I have them all bookmarked and will download them to the GPSr for the trip. We're looking forward to enjoying some of these wonderful locations.

To answer Haffy6's question, ...we met 6 years ago (before either of us had heard of geocaching), ...not sure if it even existed in its current form then. A co-worker of mine introduced me to geocaching almost a year ago. I went out and picked up an e-trex and introduced it to Jane and my son. We were hooked! We've learned so much about our town (and neighboring towns) and have had lots of fun in the meantime.

    thanks again!

p.s. We will be releasing a TB (probably in Portland) to commemorate the occasion!
