    Wink Cache Maintenance

We think it's a good idea to check your caches in the spring, ESPECIALLY when a cache log states that there is a problem. We've been out and about the last 3 days, and a great many of the caches we've found need maintenance: logs soaked, etc.

Sheesh! Even a tight container (ammo can, lock-n-lock container) can get wet. Warm, moist summer air gets in, and the moisture condenses in the cold of winter. This condensation will soak a log (or rust a metal container shut, as we found today).

If you place a cache, you have an obligation to maintain it (unless you can convince Dubord to visit it - he likes to maintain other people's caches! LOL!)

I'm just getting back to some caching and I encourage CO's to check their caches, respond to logs that suggest your cache needs something AND to carry some spare logs with you as many cachers do. It's the right thing to do! For cachers that place less traditional cache containers, now is a good time to check and see if it survived the winter. Some containers placed in Maine are not "up to" our winter weather. If you have one like this, this might be a good time to change it out. Thanks for the reminder Bruce!
