geez, ffjake! this was such a hoot! i have been asking everyone what the &)#* curling is all about, and you answered my question in detail. (i pointed out to a friend the other day that i don't sweep my floors, let alone go out and sweep the ice!) and your definition of short track speed skating was priceless. i wish your column was weekly - i could use more laughs like this. thank you, thank you!

There's also a very good Canadian movie about curling (starring Paul Gross of "Due South"), entitled "Men with Brooms".Originally Posted by becket
I must be a demented individual, I actually enjoy watching curling. I find the strategy and the precision in which they slide the stones fascinating. I would love to give it a try. The sweeping part looks like too much work, though.
No pun intended. I have been a curling fan since the last Winter Olympics. You can get too much of a good thing sometimes however. And yes I have seen "Men with brooms" A very funny look at the sport and those who participate. The BEST thing about curling. Overweight men in their 40s CAN win Olympic gold.
Happy Trails!
Sheesh! I'll bet people that like to watch curling also like to watch professional bowling! LOL!
(And having said that, I admit that in my younger days I used to be a very active bowler - especially during the "beer frames". )
They are closing the schools in Newfoundland tomorrow so that the students can watch the Canada vs. Finland Men's curling. The group representing Canada is from Newfoundland. If the skip is wearing a mike, enjoy his accent. Go Canada!
Oh yeah, greetings from Nova Scotia.... no snow here either.
