How big was it. I've seen a couple. One was very small, had one little button on it's tail that rattled like crazy but only when the animal control guy on base actually picked it up. He pinned it with a snake stick and then picked it up.....very carefully. I had gone out when a couple guys acted pretty wound up and taken a bucket and rake they were using and kinda scooped the little one into the bucket.
The other one, I was driving down a single car width track to a fishing spot on base when I saw one stretched completely across the track. Head in sagebrush on one side, tail in sagebrush on the other so the snake was at least 6 or 7 feet long. I stopped my car, got out and tossed a small rock at the snake. Sheer stroke of luck but I managed to bounce the stone onto the snake. It coiled and immediately rattled. I turned around and went home for the day.
Sometimes the road less traveled is less traveled for a reason.
